| Yeah, hype is bad. Don't try to describe your music either, apart from in the very broadest terms (ie "rock," "jazz," etc), or you'll sound pretentious. And please oh please don't say anything like "despite playing only 3 gigs, the band have already built up a large local following." Just be brief and concentrate on the facts. Don't write at length about the process of forming the band, because no-one will read it.
Don't mention anything negative - if you don't have a cd, or you've never played a gig before, for example, just don't mention demos or gigs. On the other hand, if you've had a good gig in a big club or done a demo in a decent studio, throw it in. Don't go on or crow about it, but make sure people know about the good things you've done. It's just about telling people the basic facts and showing yourselves in a positive light.
