How many singers does your band have? Our original band is a 5 piece. We have one lead vocalist, and I provide regular back up vocals, and have a few shared leads in a couple songs. We have a third singer, who doesnt sing with us much outside of rehearsals, only occasionally at gigs. Sometimes its because we can only get 2 mics at gigs, and other times I think she just really doesnt want to sing. Her singing isnt bad, but she has poor projection. Im thinking about starting a coverband, and when I get to auditions Id like to have as many vocalists as possible, at least 3, possibly 4. The band may end up a 4 or 5 piece, Im still unsure of that, though I do want to keep the number of members down. So, how many members are in your band, and how many of them contribute vocally? |
my 7 pc band has 4 singers the 6 pc has 3 singers the duo has 1 |
Six piece band, two female singers with fixed lead and background roles. Our guitarist can sing too, and I'd really love him to (a duet would rock my socks off) but he's just so shy about it. Well maybe the lead singer's LSD got to do with it, no one wants to get on her bad side lol. Our background singer needs more backbone though. She's not confident enough and that sometimes has a negative impact on her singing even though she got a great voice. We always tell her to turn it up, heh. |
I'm in two bands. An originals and a cover. In both bands we all sing. |

The more band members, the smaller the pay check. Blue |

I definitely know that more members equals a smaller check. Ideally the band will have 4 members: Guitar, Bass, Keys, Drums, with as many singers amongst them as possible. Im not closed off to the idea of a second guitarist, should one be necessary to pull off the material. |
I just started singing last night and that would make two of us. I'm not the primary but I'll do some of the leads. Singing is hard. |

I apologize to anyone who has been subjected to my "singing" before then... |
The only excuse for not singing at least bg is if you own the truck and the PA and the rehearsal space. And when the guys find a singing bass player, you'll get to be road manager. |
Original rock trio. Currently one singer, working on getting me into backing vocals. I'm not a great singer but I'm pretty sure I've got the ability to do it. I'd rather just play bass but peer pressure and all that. |
4 members, 4 singers. I'd love to say we split the vocals all over the place but I (as the primary b/g vocalist) sing in all the songs with b/g vocals and sing lead in about 40% of the material played. I will emphasize that good microphones and monitors help in confidence building. In our room with our monitors, an SM58 couldn't cut it. We went with EV 767 & 967s which help materially with cutting through the room and articulation. |
My two main bands we all sing. |
Four piece with rhythm guitar singing lead and me bu. Recently purchased the TC Helicon GxT harmonizer. An amazing piece of equipment we didn't have in the 70's. |
I work in three different bands. One is an eight-piece where five sing. One is a four-piece where three sing. The other is a six-piece where four sing. I don't sing in any of them. I was not blessed with a singing voice, unfortunately. |
There are eight people in the band and all of us sing. None of us are very good singers so we do lot's of group vocals and instrumentals. |
5 piece 80s rock cover band Keys/Rhythm Guitar - 2/3 of lead vocals, some harmonies Rhythm guitar - 1/3 lead vocals, mostly harmonies Drums - harmonies, lead on one song. Could do more Bass - no singing. Could, just doesn't work out in this band Lead guitar - occasional harmonies (shouted unison lines in rock and roll moments!) Lots of stage banter. |
Current main band is a 4 piece with 3 singers. |
4-piece variety band has four singers. 3-piece classic rock band has two. 4-piece blues project has two. I don't sing. |
4-piece (drums, bass, 2-guitars) cover band. We all sing lead. In fact, we rotate the vocals and all sing the same number of songs at a gig which is 12 songs each. |
4 piece, original band. 1 lead singer, and the rest of us sing back up now. We're starting to put more focus on our vocal hooks and melodies since those seem to be pretty important for most listeners. |
