How to write a great Craigslist/classified ad

Sign in to disble this ad
Well Tbers, I've just moved to a new town and I'm looking to form a group. Problem is, there's minimal musician network in town and little space to advertise (one music shop with bulletin board, maybe 2 bars that have regular live music). Craigslist to the rescue right?

Well, I've actually had really terrible luck using craigslist to find/start a band and I'd like to know if there are some good tips floating around on how to use classifieds to their maximum potential.

I try to always include this info:
genre
originals or covers
gigging expectations/ level of commitment

Beyond that and sounding polite I'm always afraid I'll just be wasting space on the ad page, thus discouraging people to read.

Help me with your classified strategies please!

Try to be personable in your ad, and use a little (tasteful) humor. This will encourage responses from easy going, non-douchey players.

You must ALWAYS include a paragraph that says:

"If you don't realize that Yngwie Malmsteen makes the musical contributions of all other guitarists obsolete and meaningless, you are hopelessly inferior. Please don't waste my time with your inferiority."

Wait...did you say you WANT people to reply to your ad? Sorry, just forget that previous suggestion...
