Hows this for my Cl ad?

Sign in to disble this ad
I cant get any more open and honest than this ..what ya think?

Band- Bipolar Barbie
http://bipolarbarbierocks.com

1. What style(s) of music do you play -
Rock (generally 70's-current), new country, funk, reggae, pop, 80's hair metal and swing/rockabilly.

2. Are you aiming to make money or not?
yes, plan on gigging within a 2-3 hr radius of Jax a few times a month, bars, corporate, wedding receptions, private parties.
right now we just have 1 gig lined up playing a few songs at a benefit show for the Humane Society in Nov.

3. Do you have a band put together, or starting one. If the latter, what instruments do you have?
Have a band put together, started about 3-4 months ago, drums, female lead vox and bass so far.
we're just starting out so we're slowly building up gear, right now we have a powered 10 channel mixer and 3 monitors (yorkville and soundtech) for vocals during practice. We should be getting some mains here in the next couple weeks.

4. Do you have a practice space?
Yes, we practice in a 12x24 garage

5. Originals, covers, or both?
covers with possible originals in the future

6. WHERE exactly are you located?
Located between yulee and fernandina beach about 30 min drive from Jax.

7. What are your policies on smoking, drugs, and drinking?.
420, do what you want on your own time as long as it doesnt affect the band or your playing.
drinking, we may have a couple during practice but keep it to a minimum. had a guitarist with a great personality but the excessive drinking was too much for us to deal with and we're not looking to repeat that, again as long as it doesnt affect the band or your playing.
two cigarette smokers in the band.

8. How often do you practice?
usually 2x a week, right now wed/thurs evening 7-10pm. practice days aren't set in stone it depends on members schedules.

Band members are age 34-40, drummer started playing again about 6 months ago after a 15yr break.
Bassist has been playing for about 3 yrs.
Singer has been at it her whole life.
and if it matters (some people get wigged out about it) drummer and singer are married.

gig experience - zero, aside from singer doing church solos. again just starting out, very motivated but lacking experience.

9. what are you looking for -
a dependable guitarist with decent skills, doesnt have to be Satriani, just be a half decent player and be able to play rhythm and some solos. vocals would be a big plus, some songs just arent ment for female vox so we would like someone who can cover a few male lead vox and some backup.
gear - as long as it works and sounds good we could care less what you play.
have reliable transportation, we.dont care what you drive as long as you have a way to get back and forth to rehearsal.

10. WHO are you, and HOW do I contact you?
contact Dave either via the contact form on our website or respond to this ad.

we are all real laid back, easy to get along with, maybe you've been playing your whole life and maybe you're like us and just getting back into it after a long break. We're not going to expect you to learn 60 songs in a week or anything like that, we have a fairly long list of songs and form those select a few each week and work on them. We have about 15-20 down right now, we just get together and have fun, no pressure.

just an example of stuff we're working on -
Pat Benatar, Sublime, AC/DC, Jack Johnson, Skid Row, Carrie Underwood, Pussycat Dolls, Goldfinger, Joan Jett, Dazz Band, Puddle of Mudd, The Cure, Go-Go's, Oukast, Garth Brooks, Morris day & the Time, Stray Cats, Queen, Duran Duran, The Ramones

So if you might be interested let me know, come jam, see how it goes.

I think you should clarify what you're looking for first or very early.

I wasn't sure if you were looking to hire someone or looking to book gigs.

And not sure about the caliber of guitarist that you're looking for, but back to back night practices totalling possibly 6 hours a week would be very unrealistic for someone who's been doing it for a while and knows his stuff. Honestly. If people come prepared it's simply not needed, or at least to that extent.

Just pointing out things you might run into.

oh yeh, the title of the ad was "cover band looking for guitarist"

as far as the practice schedule goes, it probably isnt necessary but all of us are just learning the songs, sometimes its fast others not so much. Since we're just starting out we arent expecting some incredible guitarist just someone who has been playing a few years maybe like us, quit for awhile and picked it back up again.

thanks for the feedback though.

I'll second stflbn's comment, the 'two nights a week' practice is going to turn off some otherwise-very-qualified people. The name of the game is "learn the tunes on your own time". Practice with the group is just a way to reinforce what you already know, away from the tape/record/mp3 player. IMHO, anything more than 1 practice a week (especially with no gigs in the future) is asking to burn the band out before it gets off the ground.

I'd say a bit too long.

Try to condense it. People don't read the newspaper, they read the stupid AP one-liners on Yahoo and call it reading the news.
