Their recordings are so balanced - every one of them is great and no one overpowering anyone else, like a band full of professional session players

| | | Huey Lewis & The News have produced some of the best power pop rock songs ever. Sure fired crowd pleasing single-a-long happy songs. The songs are well written and much more difficult than they sound. The bass lines are always very important to driving the songs. I used to play quite a few of their tunes. I saw them live way back when and they were really good then and still are very polished. It's too bad the original bass player is no longer with them.
I would like to do this song with my current band.

Certain movie songs have an appeal that transcends the song itself. |

Certain movie songs have an appeal that transcends the song itself. | Huey Lewis & The News also had another single from that soundtrack.

| | | | Seems like a good idea to me. It's instantly recognizable, meaning people don't have to think "wait, what is this?" before they know if they like it or not. It has a few crescendos between simple, repeating melodic parts that make it easy to dance to but not boring. I think you're guitarist knows what he's thinking.

Besides, as a great friend of Phil Lynott's he deserves every bass player's respect.

Anyone use this song in their shows in their cover band?
Thanks. | We've been adding 80's dance music in recent times. My way of deciding what will be a good dance number is that I run potential songs either by my wife or college girlfriend of mine both of whom spent a fair amount of time dancing at clubs.
As for that particular tune, I will say that when I asked about Huey Lewis the one my ex girlfriend recommended was 'I Want a New Drug' as being the most danceable to her. That said, I think most any of Huey's bigger hits would work fine. |
