I can only imagine. It'd be nice to see the "show off" a bit. Their recordings are so balanced - every one of them is great and no one overpowering anyone else, like a band full of professional session players

I think Workin' For a Livin' is a better choice for corporate gigs.

Huey Lewis & The News have produced some of the best power pop rock songs ever. Sure fired crowd pleasing single-a-long happy songs. The songs are well written and much more difficult than they sound. The bass lines are always very important to driving the songs. I used to play quite a few of their tunes. I saw them live way back when and they were really good then and still are very polished. It's too bad the original bass player is no longer with them.

I would like to do this song with my current band.

It's the signature song from 'Back to the Future' which brings back many happy memories from that time. A lot of people are going to like it.

Certain movie songs have an appeal that transcends the song itself.

I watched at least 50 people lose their mind over that song at my friend's wedding.

Huey Lewis & The News also had another single from that soundtrack.

We covered a lot of Huey back in the 80s and people loved it. Good tune ... much better than "I Want a New Drug." "Workin' for a Living'" always went over well, too.

Which was actually a cover version of a song called The Power Of Love first recorded by Jennifer Rush in 1984 and then covered by Laura Branigan in 1987.

Seems like a good idea to me. It's instantly recognizable, meaning people don't have to think "wait, what is this?" before they know if they like it or not. It has a few crescendos between simple, repeating melodic parts that make it easy to dance to but not boring. I think you're guitarist knows what he's thinking.

As a farout/left field, improvising/avant garde jazz bass player and modern classical composer, I'll say this: Huey Lewis & The News is one of my guilty 80ties pleasures, and proud of it.

Besides, as a great friend of Phil Lynott's he deserves every bass player's respect.

"The Heart of Rock and Roll" might be a better option for dance.

My old band used to do Working for a Living. Huey Lewis has some good tunes.

I'd do Power of Love.

Anyone use this song in their shows in their cover band?
Thanks.
We've been adding 80's dance music in recent times. My way of deciding what will be a good dance number is that I run potential songs either by my wife or college girlfriend of mine both of whom spent a fair amount of time dancing at clubs.

As for that particular tune, I will say that when I asked about Huey Lewis the one my ex girlfriend recommended was 'I Want a New Drug' as being the most danceable to her. That said, I think most any of Huey's bigger hits would work fine.

I don't know if my wife would let me have a college girlfriend but if I told her it was for research, then maybe she might.

FWIW I think overall you guys did a fine job on the tune and special kudos to the vocalist. If I had a criticism I'd say that I didn't really like the beginning to the guitar solo but a nice recovery and the final solo was very nice. I wish the video quality was better.

Congrats.
