But I really dont even feel like it. Any words of encouragement?. I`ve got most of the songs down, but I`m worried that I`ll f*ck up and make us look bad.

Jay,

I am really torn as to what to advise. In one way, I would recommend that you don't play. It seems to me as if the Spirit may not be in you right now, or maybe the Spirit is trying to show you something you need to know. But I have ZERO clue as to what is going on in your life, and I cannot presume to know how God may be using you right now.

I also say this because of the way you say you feel and the language you use - even though the asterisk is there.

I don't want to say too much more about it, nor do I want to censor anyone, but the words we use do say a lot about our state of mind and body.

Perhaps you should go and play - maybe some more "butt in pew" time is what you need. Maybe you'll see that your service in Him is uplifting to others, and that will help you feel better about it.

I don't honestly know what to tell you - I am not an expert by any means. I just have my own little opinions.

This is perhaps a tad trite, but it is almost always in my thoughts:

Be Careful

Be careful of your thoughts,
for your thoughts become your words.

Be careful of your words,
for your words become your actions.

Be careful of your actions,
for your actions become your habits.

Be careful of your habits,
for your habits become your character.

Be careful of your character,
for your character becomes your destiny.

I'm not sure what to say about the first part. I admit there are times when I'd like to sleep in on Sunday - especially after a Friday or Saturday gig that went late. I usually feel better after I get there.

As for the knowing the tunes and messing up, there's no more forgiving audience than at church. Even on our worst days people will tell us hoe wonderful the music was and thank us for sharing our gifts and being a part of the service.

Yes, this last part is very true!

I would say step one is no F bombs.

And last week was my first time playing at church. It took me half a song each "set" to calm down and start playing decent. People said I sounded great, and I need to turn it up more. So yeah, no worries... play your best... mistakes happen, most congregations will be happy just to have ya. But if you don't want to that bad, I would suggest maybe not.
