I Just Got Into A Band!!!

Holy wow, I got invited to jam with a friend of mine in his band with a singer, drummer and 2 guitarists. I'm so psyched but at the same time so nervous. It's a college band and I've only beeen playing a few months but I'm so dedicated. I told him I don't have much experience but what I've got from this site and a few lessons. My heart is in my throat. I don't know what to do, he says they play a few cover songs and write some of their own material.... Should I be intimated? I don't know the first thing about writing bass lines or jamming. This would be my first! Any suggestions other than what I found through search would be awesome. I am so humble but at the same time I really want to grow as a bassist. I contribute all of my progress so far to Talkbass.com!! wow......

You'll be fine. It's all about the look anyway.

if you don't know what to do just find out what scale they're in and hang on a root note. Guitar players love it when you just do that and let them solo

To get better, you need to play with better musicians than you... I'll have an easy time finding the right band then

Go for it ! Enjoy and good luck!

Why be intimidated? They asked you, not the other way around.

Besides, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose. Worst case is you go back to the way things were before.

Enjoy the experience. It won't be your last.

awesome. Thanks for the support ladies and gents. I just want to meet and exceed expectations. He's never heard me play before but we know each other from high school and they needed a bassist. I'm not sure whether I should just get the tab quick for some of the cover songs they do just to have something to jam with on monday or go through the process of trying to learn them myself before I meet up with them. I'd rather not tab just to impress them cause I don't want to establish false ideas, but I'd like to have something in my back pocket.
