I auditioned for a band and just recieved a call saying that I am the new bass player but I am going to have to call them back and decline. The time of the gig and band practice conflict with my work schedule. There is no way that I can change my work schedule. It is a part time job and there are only certain hours that I can work. Everyone at my workplace works the same hours. And I cant quit since I took this job to make ends meet after walking out on a bad worklace environment in March and have not founfd anything full time.

Has anyone had to decline joining a band because it conflicted with your work schedule?

Yes i declined playing bass in a big touring band, because i had school and exam commitments and i just couldnt travel round the UK as much as they did. P****d me off a little but im ok with it now.

I was made an offer by a very nice local band. But they play out a *lot*. Like...August 11, August 12, August 15, August 17, August 18...that kind of schedule.

I have to work a day job, and I can't be gone from home so much, so late, when I have kids to bring up.

Another band offered me a position, but they tour. They're gone two weeks at a time. I *really* like this band, and they've been interested in me twice. There's kids attached to that band, as well, but they are very young, and their parents are going to home-school them. They've been on tour with their folks since they were babies.

Mine haven't. They're public school kids with friends and activities, and they don't *want* to be dragged around on tours for two weeks.

That, and I'd have had to drive a *long* way to practice. Like...almost to Houston.

Hated having to turn them down, but I had to.

Luckily, the band I'm with now plays in the city, not just out here, so there is more opportunity there. They don't carry a too-heavy schedule, so I can handle it. I'm not *completely* happy, because I like to rock harder than they do, but I am working on putting together another project that will do that, with people who just want to keep it real close to home.

I hope you find a situation that fits you, too!

Cherie
