I was looking for a drummer and this guy starts ranting at me in emails

Sign in to disble this ad
I posted an ad to look for a drummer on the weekend and then got emails from this guy who seems to have something against me.

Ok here's the ad I posted, I'm not good at posting ads so I'm guessing there might be info missing.

Heres a link:

http://brisbane.gumtree.com.au/c-Com...AdIdZ167363437

Here's the emails we sent to each other:

His response:

yeah i am interested tell me your ages -ideas etc!
i am in cleveland own studio

my response:

Hi,

The response you gave us is a bit vague, do you think you can tell us a bit more about yourself?i.e. years been playing drums, age, if played in bands before, have your own gear, musical influences and anything else about yourself musical or not.

Thanks
Tam

His response:

actualy i thought your ad was missing a lil info!!...thats why i asked for your ages& ideas ie;covers or originals-what experience you guys have is the band working or not....where you rehearse?????????
myspace.com/craighudsonadrummer
above should answer your questions
craig hudson keep bangin!

My response:

Hi Craig,

I agree that maybe there was a bit of info missing let me fill you in we're 20 & 21, we mentioned in the ad that we wanted to do both covers and originals, no we haven't got much live playing experience except playing at tafe, I've been playing bass for 2 years and my friend has been playing guitar for 6 years, is the band working or not? I'm guessing you mean are we gigging yet? the answer is no we mentioned in the ad about not intending to gig straight away and to answer your final question we live in the same house so we rehearse at our place, it would be a bit different if we had a drummer so we would have to then hire a space and rehearse there as there is not enough room here.

Your turn to give some info, your myspace doesn’t say much at all also just to clarify if you think I'm angry from how I have written in the paragraph above, I'm not at all just trying to get to the point, don't want the message to be too long. : )

Thanks
Tam

Hi Craig,

I agree that maybe there was a bit of info missing let me fill you in we're 20 & 21, we mentioned in the ad that we wanted to do both covers and originals, ummm no where does it state this in the add i read no we haven't got much live playing experience except playing at tafe, I've been playing bass for 2 years and my friend has been playing guitar for 6 years, is the band working or not? I'm guessing you mean are we gigging yet? ..if your gonna be a musician learn the language.......................................... .................................... the answer is no we mentioned in the ad about not intending to gig straight away...again this was not stated in the add i read.......................
and to answer your final question we live in the same house so we rehearse at our place, it would be a bit different if we had a drummer so we would have to then hire a space and rehearse there as there is not enough room here.

Your turn to give some info, your myspace doesn’t say much at all also just to clarify if you think I'm angry from how I have written in the paragraph above, I'm not at all just trying to get to the point, don't want the message to be too long. : )

Thanks

Is it just me or does it sound like the guys trying to talk down to me or something. If so I really don't think I did anything wrong, maybe I'm just naive and I just don't know how to talk to people. I thought I was being pretty mature, open and friendly about things, I just don't like mentioning too much about myself because I've had people trying so sell me stuff and stalk me on some of these sites, it's just a privacy thing, you can never be too careful.

Please let me know what you guys think

Sorry it's really long I know.

I don't even have any clue what is going on here.........I'd stop communicating with him. Not that you WERE successfully communicating, it looks like.

Yeah, your communication could have been a little more clear and forthcoming, but he seems like somebody you'd be better off without.

He claims to be 47 and he types like he's 10, that kind of stuff really ticks me off. Just type properly and that alone will make people take you a million times more seriously.

He sounds totally up his own A%#hole. If he's that good, why is he answering your ad. Why doesn't he ring his old mate, Carmen Appice? Avoid burnt out rock stars. Good luck, I think your ad was honest and gave enough info.

Thanks for your quick responses. I won't be talking to that guy again and will not definitely not recommend any of his services to any of my friends or family.

Dayem! That is one mammoth-sized A**hole! Your ad had enough basic info to start a dialogue with potential drummers. He apparantly just doesn't read ads before responding to them. Probably because he doesn't care what the ad says as he is just looking for opportunities to BRAG about knowing Carmine's plumber's sister's cousin. He's probably a little dilusional. Wow! Can I say it again? What an @** hole!!!!

"Drummer wanted to join vocals/bass & guitar, our ages 20 & 21. Looking for someone who is open to both covers & originals and is not planning to gig immediately. Skill level & infl. open. Pref. have own gear. "

You might want to put more details in your ad: genre of cover songs, your skill level. I would change the "Pref. have own gear" to "Own gear required" unless you're going to buy a drumset.

You also may want to check out the "Being in a band" links in my sig. below for some great TB info on looking for and auditioning potential band mates.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

As I always say, how come someone who's such a superstar is trolling Craigslist for gigs anyway? I would'a thunk that he'd be in demand...

I found your responses to be a little snotty. He may not have been calm throughout the exchange but neither were you it seems. Just the way you phrased things came off as snotty. So I can see why he became angry with you. Both of you fellows need to work on your communication skills.
