i'm going to take a year off bands..........

i've been posting some relevant threads lately that have helped me make my mind off.

I've got a new job opportunity in the new year which i have to commit to and i'm presently not in a band. I've been asked in the new year to come play with an originals band but i know its going to take up time in practice and weekend work. I find when i'm in a band i dont focus to well on my job and am always looking on the net at work at music and stuff....so i;m going to knuckle down and get my professional career in order for a year..

i just spent the day tiding up my music room so i can keep up the practice on bass, maybe a bit of acoustic or even might purchase some keys to tinkle on when i get home....i might even become a better player in my time off...lol

Has any of you done the same?

oh by the way i'll be still posting some threads that make people think a bit, like the one on simulation theory in off topics

I've taken time off when I needed to. Sometimes for a few years with a kid, job and such. Just an acoustic 6 string laying around that I played regularly.

You'll get back to it when you're ready.

Good luck.

Never know with me. There are times I get down about it all and wonder why do I do this at my age. Then I remember why...I love music and playing period.

So for now I will remain in the two bands all originals I am in. Both are fun and challenge me still.

I do however have a goal to walk away from bass and bands to work on my guitar playing and songwriting then to relaunch solo. My guitar skills are pretty good but I need to focus only on it and songwriting to get it to where I really want to see it go. There is just not enough time.

I did the same. I quit playing in bands for about 9 months. Played acoustic guitar at home sometimes and broke out the bass every once in a while.

Musically I think I got better. It only took 3 weeks or so to get my chops back.

I used to take a break every year or two. I'm currently in my longest continuous stretch of playing out, seven + years over the course of two bands (both all-originals). I'm actually ready for a break from band life myself but my current band keeps getting great gigs and seems to be on a nice upward trend so I can't bring myself bow out just yet. I think taking a break every now and then is really good, though, speaking for myself at least. You have to recharge once in a while.
