Interesting way to loss a gig...

Sign in to disble this ad
My classic rock band got a last minute gig at a restaraunt/bar.
At the same time via email, we recieve an offer for a gig a week later from a booking agent for more money. We call the booking agent only to find out the gig is the same exact place, we just played last night. When we called back the place to confirm the next gig, the manager said, I didn't know you were with "XYZ Booking". We said "we aren't, she just happened to contact us the same time you booked us and btw she offered us more money to play at your place next week".

The manager then basically yanked our gig because he felt we were being unethical?

Funny thing, the booking agent wants to book us more gigs,
because he the managerliked us...

Anybody have a similar story?

So did you ask for more money for your first gig?

I could see that peeving off the bar owner since you agreed to terms before the booking agency booked you.

No, we asked for more money for future gigs, as our first gig
was at our "introductory price". We have done this before
(without the whole booking agent in the middle thing) and usually we get a bump in pay.

This may seem unrelated but I've been banned (well not me personally, but my band as a whole) for inappropriate language form a couple of venues. If anyones familiar with Blink 182's joke songs I think you'd understand why, I don't know why though, everyone there was well over 18...

But your situation seems quite peculiar, kicked for double booking...never heard that happen before.

It seems to me like the manager got caught low-balling you (as he was willing to pay you more through the agent) and doesn't want to have to look you in the eye...

Actually we low balled ourselves for the 1st gig and were fine with it, it is th manager who is a bit pissed we want more for the 2nd gig, but still less than he was willing the booking agent...

Therein lies a lesson. If you're going to lowball the first time (usually not a good idea) be CRYSTAL clear before you play that any future performances will cost more.
