It's merely a flesh wound......

So it looks like I'm filling in with my old guitar players band for an undetermined period of time.

His bass player had a kidney transplant a few weeks ago. I guess he's had issues with them his whole life, and has had plenty of surgeries, so he was like "Give me six weeks or so, and I'll be good as new."

Apparently, people who have had organ transplants and are taking immunosuppressant drugs really aren't supposed to spend lot of time rubbing elbows with the filthy germ covered public at large.

I practiced with the band last night for the first time, and it went really really well! They do quite a few songs I know, a lot of them that I've heard forever and figured out pretty good on the fly, and maybe ten or twelve that will require some real woodshedding.

I'm just not real sure when the real bassplayer is coming back. I have stuff in the works of my own, and I don't really want to drop it all, but if this thing is as much fun as I think it will be, and John is never able to come back........ Well.......

Anyone have any experience with transplants?

The last cover band I was in for about 14 years. I got cancer, had to take leave (under 1 year) and when I was ready to come back, they pulled chicanery after telling me I was coming back and then lied about their reasons.

I was a founding member and also went out & got gigs for the band. As well as played very fine bass.

Keep an eye out for yourself. Count on nothing from others.

I've talked to John already and told him I do not want his gig! I just hope that he comes back. I can do this for a while, but I can't keep all of my stuff on the back burner forever.

I'm glad you're doing well!

I just got tossed in kind of the same boat. A Country band I was in 4 years ago had the bass player leave due to health reasons and later I heard not getting along with other's. He will not be returning to the band but will sub. The BL called me back and we have had 3 practices so far. I have my first gig with them this weekend and knew some of the old songs a few were new and woodshedding others...fun!

I say just enjoy the gig, and be straight with the guys about your level of commitment.

My son has had two kidney transplants, I was a donor for the first one in 1992. PM me if you'd like to talk.
