The Jazz Five, or

The J5, or

TJ5

or something like that.

With no players names in the group name, no one has an edge on the others. :-)))

Its too late to be doing this!

First thing that came to mind: Quazz Jintet and his Jazz Quintet.

I've always liked the chemistry/physics term: Entropy.

Entropy is the state of disorder. You can low entropy (an orderly state) or high entropy (a disorderly state). I figured it would be a good name for a jazz group-- especially in a university setting.

Entropy. The Entropy Quintet, The Entropic Quintet. The Entropy Jazz Quintet. The Entropic Jazz Quintet.

But everytime I mention it, nobody else likes it. But I'm not introducing it to jazz people, so...

A few thoughts from a jazz perspective:

It's fine for the band to be named after a member. Very common in fact.

Occasionally someone comes up with something hip and fresh and that's cool too. In jazz band names, I subscribe to the "first do no harm philosophy". Bad names are way more common than good ones.

As a player, it's not like forming a rock band and hoping to make it. You'll be in and out of so many bands over time that of all of the things that mattered, what they we're called will be off the bottom of the list.

Dig into playing and enjoy the journey. Don't sweat the small stuff and don't get into spats with people you enjoy playing with if you can help it.

My 2 cents.
