You may be right, but I'd say there's not enough information to make that call. I can't tell from the OP if he's suffering in misery in the current band or just finds it kind of dull. It also depends on how much he prizes being a "working" bassist who gigs regularly or is happy to be a hobbyist. If he's more of a working bassist and the current group is a little unsatisfying but not torturous, I would say it's better to hang on and keep playing, making contacts and building a reputation as a good player, until something better comes along. If he's more of a hobbyist or if the current group is really making him miserable, then I agree - not worth it if you're not having fun.
