Long Story Short, they went with "The Other Guy"

After the 2nd audition they went with "the other guy". While deep down I know age was a part of their decision, it's back to the drawing board for me.

I'll get the next one.

Props for the great attitude.

I lost a gig once too... came in well prepared, locked in great with the drummer... then they asked me to sing lead on a song and play. Oops. I hadn't been told that was part of the gig and pretty much failed that part totally. So I lost the gig on that, even though their drummer told me the whole band agreed I was "by far" the best bass player they auditioned.

But it all turned out fine... their drummer and I have worked together many times since then and he always talks me up around town so even though that band didn't pan out some other good things have come of it.

Thanks for the support.

This auditioning stuff is tough.Usually I have been asked to join bands because of being friends or maybe working with someone and when I was younger I had local name recognition.

Losing this one will only make me stronger for the next audition

Lost out on an audition for a band that ran 10 bass players back to back all day on a Sunday. They had a new drummer, weren't completely tight, but at least sent out a sample song list ahead of time. I did my audition - not great, but not bad, and I thought I managed pretty well. Next morning, they sent out a group email. NOBODY passed the auditions. I never did find out what it was they were looking for.

I havent seen your past threads Blue, can you tell us your age, along with the age of the band?

On that topic, a few good examples of bands without age rules are Dave Matthews Band, with Stefan joining at the age of 16!, and John Mayer, who has a variety of ages.

Music doesnt know how old you are, only how you perform.

A group e-mail. Classy. Real classy. Sounds like you won by losing, in that case.

Exactly. You don't always need to impress every person in the band. Just the right ones.

Thanks guys, thanks for all the TB support.

Here is the letter, I guess it's not bad. I'm over it. Thing is , I'm good, but hell , all this fitting in stuff. How can you tell without getting to know someone.

We really appreciate you spending the time learning songs and taking time to meet all of us. Although we would be privileged to have either bass player in our band we decided the best fit was “the other guy”.

Thanks so much and we’re sorry it didn’t work out. Hopefully we’ll run into you in the future while you’re gigging in another band..

Thanks,

Thanks,
...sounds like these guys behaved with class and i would not be the least bit surprised if you get a call from them......the other guy may end up unsuitable for any number of reasons.......or they may tell some guys about this bass player they auditioned but could only keep one......

Did you really need to make two topics for this?

In any case, just keep moving, keep practicing, and keep auditioning.

Thanks

Thanks again, and thanks for all the pre audition suggestions.

I responded back to the rejection, professionally.

I have learned from the experience, now it's on to more playing ,practicing and auditioning.

BTW, I had a great lesson tonight.

So sorry to hear this bluewine; I know you had your hopes up.

Considering you got the second audition, you must be getting close.

Best of luck, and keep up the good attitude.
