The managers obligation?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a demo bend that is making good progress and i think by the end of the year we will release the album.Untill then we played(and will play) alot of demo and competitions festivals, club gigs and we had good response from the audiance and people working at the festivals and club owners.

Well the issue is for one festival our manager sent demo recordings and they booked us.3 days before the beggining they(festival organisation) sent us an email stating that we have to pay for the participation(thats the word?) around 20EUR(30US) and that we have to pay for our own traveling expenses that were around 50EUR(75US).

They didnt inform us about that when we got booked(3 weeks before). We didnt feel good about having to cancel the gig,but i felt that the manager had to pay for the costs of playing, but he would have his money back from the next club gigs 'cause we have a pretty stable income and regular gigging.

I dont want to turn this into an "am i right or i am right" thread, but is this fair.He booked us,they wanted for us to pay the expenses. If he payed he would get his money back, but like this the whole band turned to be unproffesional by cancelling the gig 3 days before the start.

I also thought about the whole band spliting the cost but my band members were not into that idea.I still feel that manager had to pay up for the sake of our bands reputation.

BTW sorry for bad english. ))

uh, i dunno what any of that means...

But here's what I know about managers - If you aren't paying them they don't owe you anything. If you lose money because the band screws up, that's the band's problem. If you don't like how the manager does things, book the gigs yourselves.

No one will blame you for cancelling a gig like that.

Still i feel kinda bad for cancelling the gig.And it wasnt that much money anyways.Thats 100US.I dont wanna get a rep for cancelling, and i try to be as much pro as i can.

Not even for 100US.We take 300US for a club gig.We could have covered that easy.
