We have "Billie Jean" and "Beat It" on our setlist for this weekend's "Wedding Singer" gig. Is it appropriate to pay tribute to him by playing the songs or removing them?

I'd keep them on there, however, maybe just mention something prior to playing them. I think people will respect that.

What a tortured and sad existance he had, I only hope the charges against him were false and I hope he finds his peace, I pray for his children.
Unlike "Thriller" I felt that "Off the Wall" was his crowning achievment.

I disagree, but it's moot. Everybody respects his body of work, even if they weren't sure about the man himself.

I have to say we do them pretty well. Guitarist has nailed the EVH solo the last three months. I love the walking bassline to Billie Jean. Use an envelope filter and octave fx to get the synth bass down and adds a nice touch. It will be a blessing to pay tribute to the sounds of his influence on pop music.

One of the best if not the best singer/dancers ever.Unfortunately there will be forever question marks over him as a person.

I'm of the skeptical crowd...he no doubt made some interesting decisions in his life which he is ultimately responsible for. He will still go down as the best ever at what he did.

Bro never had a childhood....and what childhood he did have was riddled with abuse.

Its pretty crazy was instability in early/adolescent childhood will do to do years down the road....abuse to drugs didn't help things either.

We played "Billie Jean" Thursday night and the crowd was very positive. *Nobody* seemed put off.

In spite of his short commings Michael Joseph Jackson raised the bar of music entertainment to a level that can never be matched. He was "arguably" (however, not in my mind) the greatest performer of all time. He will be forever missed.

R.I.P

Mr. Jackson.

RIP

As a kid, I was one of his biggest fans! Unfortunately, when you're rich people want to find a way to get your money. He had been abused and never had a childhood so as an adult me made himself vulnerable to accusations. Nothing was every proven but he was left with heavy questions hanging over him. That's too bad.

In spite of that, Michael Jackson was one of the greatest musical performers of all time. He had a good, clear singing voice, he danced better than nearly everyone else on the planet, he played the piano, and he wrote or co-wrote most of his songs.

I'm glad that as musicians (and not "just bass players") we can appreciate his work and pay respects to him. He was only 50; that's way too young to die, IMO.

Michael Jackson will be remembered as a GREAT artist.
