Funny I was thinkin about 'all for you' in the car the other day. We have been working on our vocals, and sister hazel is a hometown band (basically, they're from gainesville, but tallahassee loved them much. In fact, they filmed the video for all for you here at floyds music store with creed opening for them. I was there! Lol ).

Guess ill have to give it a shot.

Thanks!

That song has gone over really really well every time we've played it - it has just enough of a country vibe to please that crowd. Get those backing vocals right and it can really show off the whole band's vocal abilities - I love how we sound on that song.

I'm a huge Sister Hazel fan from even before my days at UF for undergrad and have seen them about 5 times, their older stuff had some really killer bass work and their harmonies are always really tight.

Nice set list.
Yeah I'd say we do. We've even gone so far as to make it our last song of the night on a couple occasions. It was actually one of the very first songs we ever played together and we usually get requests for it from our hardcore followers whenever we don't include it in a set list. As far as I'm concerned, you cannot go wrong with any RHCP song, especially one that rocks that hard. "Use Somebody" kills every time out too.

Great thread....We are in a similar boat - we started with a focus on modern hard rock and have started rolling in more classic songs and trying to get more dancable rock tunes in the sets. I'll dig out our catalog and post.

We used to play Good by Better Than Ezra and Dig In by Lenny Kravitz but they went nowhere with the crowd.

People have a strange perception of what constitutes 'modern' music. I'm seeing a lot of songs listed on here that came out in the early 90's.

I just pulled out my cell phone and double checked, its 2012. 1992 was twenty years ago!

If you're target demographic is people in their 40's, then you're spot on. If you find yourself wondering why there aren't any young 20-somethings at your shows . . .

Before the haters start, I went through this myself with my last cover band. I finally lost it and quit shortly after the singer proudly proclaimed that he had divided our setlist into themes of a "blues" set, a "classic rock" set, and a "modern" rock set. The "modern" he was talking about was Tom Petty's 'Mary Jane's Last Dance' and Lenny Kravitz's 'Are You Gonna Go My Way'. I was like, "Dude, that was TWENTY years ago."

Needless to say, we were real popular with the late-40's and early-50's crowd (i.e. people that don't go out to bars).

I was thinking the same thing......but I can't say much because I'm trying to drag my bandmates into the 2000's...

40 and 50 year olds like 90's music? That is a huge exaggeration. I am 31. Still in my prime bar going years and most of my childhood/teenhood rock was 90's stuff. I bet most 50 year olds wouldnt even be able to tell you who Jet or Radiohead are.

Fair enough.
I like a lot of the suggestions here, even if they don't fall under my original criteria of '00 to present.

We play songs from both of those bands & I'll be 50 in April and our drummer is 53. Most of the people at our gigs are mid 20's to mid 30's. they love the fact that we play music from the 90's, 00's & 10's and they also love that we dont play the same old stuff that most of the other bands around here play. and yet they go nuts over "Brown eyed girl" The best part is both them & us have a blast! We get payed & Bar owner is happy and keeps booking us!

We recently played a wedding reception with lots of 20 and 30 year olds in attendance along with little kids and 40s to 80s. We play music from six decades but when we played songs like Old Time Rock & Roll, Wooly Bully, Hanky Panky, Another Brick In The Wall, and some others, the younger people jammed the dance floor and sang along.

The bride and groom had us play Back In Black on a CD as their entrance music as I announced the bridal party and the bride (in her 20s) requested that we play Whip It, Abracadabra, and some other songs that she knows we play and they were all hits before she was born.
