Need advice re: personal appearance contracts, etc.

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently created basslines and helped arrange music for a local group's cd, and the recording session went south when they didn't want to pay me for a third (unscheduled) session.

They invited me to lunch today, semi-apologized, and want me to do four shows with them over the next couple of months...two of them are big, public, cd release shows.

(They couldn't find another bass player.)

I told them I'd check my calendar, work up a proposal, and put it in writing.

Anyone have a simple, personal appearance contract I could use?

btw: I'm thinking $50/rehearsal, $200 flat/show. They usually do a 1 1/2 to 2 hour sound check and 4 hours shows with three 15 minute breaks.
Before they showed their azzes I was doing the rehearsals free and getting $100/show. They clearly knew I was just a hired gun and not "sharing their musical vision" for no pay.

Come on, you hoopleheads, talk to me here.

the $50/ $200 sounds good to me....maybe they'll think twice next time about being pricks.

Yeah, it's amazing.

They're mostly an acoustic/harmony act like Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young Lite or the Eaglettes and obsess over everything sound-related. However, they usually end up with a killah live mix and have some really good original material.

Making that transition from acoustic to electric and having all the girls notice is beginning to mess with their heads. They've gotten a strong whiff of rock'n'roll heaven, and they're dizzy.

...so was I the only person who read the headline and thought "waitaminute... someone wants him to do a contract for his clothes and hairstyle with a band?!"

...I have friends in a great band with a really popular sound (emo pop), and a big regional following (they've done significant touring and even toured with the Warped Tour), but they've had some trouble getting a record contract, because the singer and lead guitar player were too fat. That's probably why I thought what I thought

You might also check with your local AFM, who should have scale lined up. It tends to differ from region to region, but the last I remember in Nashville (1999) was 50/show for local, and 200/show for out of town, with I think a $30/day per diem.
