Need practice space!

Sign in to disble this ad
Recently my band was informed that we would have to find a new practice/rehearsal space. We practice once a week and have made leaps and bounds because of this. We're a beginning band, with all of us playing under 2 years on our respective instruments. We are a three piece band and are in desperate need of a new place in the Dallas area. Closer to Plano would be ideal. Does anyone know of a place that offers practice times for cheap/free.

Anyone have any ideas regardless of the area? I have heard of bands using storage places, but I don't know where they run power from. We are asking all our friends, and I figured it would help to ask experienced musicians too.

Thanks!

Not sure of any place that you can get for free, but there are plenty of great rehearsal studios in Dallas with hourly and monthly rooms:

Universal Rehearsal (near Greenville and 635) www.universalrehearsal.com
Absolute Rehearsal (near Walnut Hill and 35E) www.absoluterehearsal.com
Musicians Exchange (near 35E and 635) www.myspace.com/musiciansexchangerehersal
Jam Station (Plano, near 75 and Parker Rd) 972-943-9824
Pro Rehearsal (near 35E and Regal Row) www.prorehearsal.com
Rubber Gloves (Denton) www.rubberglovesdentontx.com

Call around and see if you can something in your price range.

Thanks for the heads up. And if anyone else has suggestions, please advise.

Don't know the region, but from other similar threads, I'll give you what I remember

- self-storage facilities (get the owner's permission! Not just the clerk at the front!)
- Industrial offices that are for rent (talk to the leasing agency for the owner's contact information). Basically, ask to rent it until it gets officialy leased/sold
- Community halls/centres, or similar buildings in your community (where your scouts/cubs/brownies/etc meet)
- Look to the spaces above restaurants/etc that are downtown. Often there are "abandoned" spaces there, since they are not "marketable" (no good entrances, or too small, or whatever). Talk to the building owner.

Good luck!

I know a really good place (where our band has been for over 4 years). But depends on what "cheap" is

The location will be more into the Dallas area.... The only thing that I know is close to Plano (that I know if and worth it) is Musician's Exchange and Absolute. How much does your band have to spend per month? $100? $200? $300? It wont be free tho...

We have the largest room, as a five piece with a good size drum spread, and we pay approx $375. You wont find anywhere better than this place and there are cheaper rooms. Two story office/commerical building. Clean, dry, and everyone watchs each other's back (like a family). The owner doesn't like to have buisness signs ect ect... keeps the buisness as a "word of mouth".

He also has two hourly rated rooms, but I don't know how much it is an hour.

I don't have his number on me at this moment, but I have a show tonight and will be down there to pick up gear and can get it for you within the next few hours.

Great ideas everyone. I'm looking into all of these, as this is our first official week of nowhere to practice. In the last 6-8 months we've jammed together this will be only the 3rd week we haven't jammed.

Carbonfold- Did you get the name/phone number of the place?
