| | | | Need to Put Recordings of Our Band Where Each Member Can Access Them. Any Ideas??
Sign in to disble this ad
Our band records our rehearsals and shows, and up to now I make cd's for each member. What I want to do is be able to put the mp3 recordings somewhere on the web or internet so that each member can then access this site and listen, burn a cd or download the files. The site needs to be password protected, so only members of the band can access the files.
Does anyone know of such a site. It can be a free or a paid site, it doesn't matter. Just so that we can share the mp3 files with each band member.
I don't even know if such a site exists, or even if this is doable. Any help is appreciated.

Then you email the mp3s to everyone.
They can play them online with the gmail mp3 player, or can download them to burn onto a CD or whatever.
You can store at least 7.8 gigs that way.

How big are your files? We send out separate emails for each song, and its been working well. Edit: for a lark, I just sent a 24Mb email attachment through my main gmail to my spam gmail account and it worked fine. Have you guys got massive files?
The other possible option is to use whatever service your ISP provides. I don't know what your service is like, but on my home provider, I can have up to a gig of files on a private website whose address is not made public. Someone could probably stumble across it, but it hasn't happened yet. I provide the address to my friends/family etc and they can go there and download stuff. I do this with pictures and videos of my kids for my parents. This is a free standard feature of my ISP and most other ISP's in my area.
Just a thought...
Second edit: what if you open a new gmail account for everyone and then upload the files attached to a draft. Then everyone can log in to the same account at different times and download them from the draft email.
I'm spending too much time thinking about this!

I have 18GB of bandwidth a month, and it's cheap to add more. I'm using this provider and plan, with a few add-ons, but there are many others who are probably at least as good. Just give your band members an FTP password and keep whatever files you want to be private off any public pages you post. |

Take a look! http://www.getdropbox.com

I have 100Mb and use it to make stuff available to friends. If it has to be secure, I'd put the files in a password-protected .zip or .rar file; I'm assuming the security doesn't have to be psychotically paranoid just enough to stop casual downloaders.

For my bar band, I currently us standard webspace (about $25/year)
I have a project that we used MetaCafe
========================== IF you're open to a suggestion (and are organized)
Get your setlists in order.. then have everyone pop $20 for a Coby MP3 player.. no cords needed.. you can fit an entire nights material on one.. they take about 5 mins tops to drag/drop your files... we have about 1/2 our band doing this.. MUCH easier than a website.
I title the files in set order example "01010-Louie Louie" This way they can take the entire thing home and make their own CDs etc.
When everything is finalized, I'll then do quick mp3s of the song title, keys and listening notes.
This removes the other issue which is downloading a tetrabyte of junk on the other side.
Timmy

You would create the 'ftp site' on your end which is basically a shared section of your drive, create account logins/passwords for your band mates so they could access your site to download those files. Very easy to use once you get the hang of it.
[I do like the flash drives idea listed up a few posts though!]
