My cover band has asked me to come up with some good songs that are very danceable. They are looking for funky, bass heavy tunes. We already have a pretty extensive list of cover tunes that we play, but we are just looking for any more help out there. After a while it just gets hard to think what would be cool to play as there is so much material out there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The band is made up of the following: 2 Guitars, Bass, Keyboards, Drums, and 2 female lead vocalists. The Drummer and one guitarist sings lead vocals as well, and they do some great 4 part harmonies.
Just list the song title and artist that you would recommend.
Thanks!

I love the Bass line in that song.
BTW, I have an MTD 535, Black Cherry, Burl Maple topped ash, Ash neck, Maple fingerboard "Out for delivery" now. I can hardly wait.

While the horns are pretty key in their songs, you can rearrange it to keys/guitar or even leave it out on particular songs. I'm sure a diehard will notice, but they'll still be dancing.

Brickhouse - Commodores
Super Freak - Rick James
Just Like Heaven - The Cure
Just a Girl - No Doubt
Hella Good -No Doubt
Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes
Baby Got Back - Can't remember the artist, but it's rap.
Closer - NIN
and the Previously Mentioned Funky Music. |

Tainted Love - Soft Cell
What I Like About You - Romantics
Hard to Handle - Black Crowes
Santeria - Sublime (I Highly recomend this one)
Jungle Boogie - Kool and the gang (This one has kind of corny singing, but the bassline and keyboards are awesome. I've never played it live, so I can't vouch for the dancibilty of it.) |

I mentioned in another thread, Beck Bogert and Appice do a killer version of Stevie Wonders Superstition. That's with a 3 piece.

And would you believe ... Fortunate Son the old CCR tune ... No really go get the Neville bros. version on the Sing Me Back Home CD. We actually kinda blend the original with a reved up funky version! ... A reved up FUNKY version ? ... Ok so it's a Memphis Thang ! |

Le Freak or Good Times are impossible to sit still through and feature some wickedly funky bass. They're doubly good for your band with female lead singers and the drummer and guitarist there to add vocals to the choruses. |

With female lead singers and a keyboard player there is one song that will get every woman in the bar up and dancing:
"I Will Survive" - Gloria Gaynor
Courtesy of an, um *interesting* fill-in gig, I can also tell you that this song kills in a gay bar. . .
I've said too much. |

And it makes 'em want to dance.
