Here in Jacksonville, World Zombie Day's a pretty big deal. Basically, several hundred to several thousand people dress up as zombies and walk the city of Jacksonville, maintaining zombie character. The event organizers have advertised they need bands to play an after party.
Also, whether we do or do not end up playing the after party, we are going to play a Halloween party, so I figure the same kinds of songs could work... suggestions for both would be great.
We are a heavy alternative rock band, and figured that since it's a party, we should add some more covers to the list. So far we've done covers by Green Day, Nirvana, Pantera, and Rise Against, as well as played around with bands such as Metallica, Days of the New, etc. etc.
We're wondering if anybody has some suggestions for some rock songs that would fit the mood... both general party songs and some things sort of horror/ zombie themed.
A couple I'm thinking of myself are
Brains - Voltaire. Might be able to rock this one up a little bit.
Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult. Already a pretty solid rock tune
Down With the Sickness - Disturbed. Not quite the theme, but always seems to be associated with zombies...
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark/Number of the Beast/Killers/ a bunch of their other stuff
Rob Zombie - Dragula
And I'm sure I'll come up with more. Suggestions are welcome. As well as costume ideas.

| | | | for costumes, you should dress up as the zombies of famous rockers and play some of their songs. Someone could be Kurt Cobain, another could do John Lennon (and do a Beatles song) Whats-his-name from the clash, one could be John Bonham or Keith Moon, etc.
That way, you could play a lot of songs that would otherwise be out of theme, but since you are zombified versions of the musicians, they would fit.

| | | | Well, you guys COULD learn some of the songs that Elena Siegman released for Call of Duty: Black Ops. (terrible games) They're completely zombie themed.
Any Lordi would be good too. I think there also may be a few Dethklok songs that could apply, but I can't think of the name.

| | | | A hard rock version of Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo might work. Plus it has a good bass line... |

I haven't played the main story, but I play Zombies with my brother a lot and he always has to unlock the extra songs... good music, though I'd have to adapt it to our male vocalist. Otherwise we might have done Zombie by the Cranberries (even though it has nothing to do with Zombies)
And Dethklok's a little too heavy for what we're looking for, I think. I love them though.

The idea of Zombies chasing after humans to eat their brains to the theme from a movie about being faster than the competition just seems funny to me.
I always thought this looked like zombies in their underwear chasing after a guy in his underwear.

Our back up vocalist maybe could, but I think between them we can figure something out, even if it's raising it a couple octaves and changing the key. We've got plenty of song suggestions that we probably won't have to resort to reaching like that, but keep them coming!
I loved Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo... between that and Voltaire, we'll have two awesome rockified covers if we choose to.
I think this is something we all can have fun with. I might play the World Zombie Day show for free, but it'll be an absolute blast.

Would it be corny to have a sort of dance move associated with the Zombie Stomp to teach to the audience?
