The GK combo seems like a reasonable workaround for the time being. But then what are the volume levels like with this audition band?

BTW, glad to hear that you decided to walk from that band where the drummer was trying to tell you to buy an Ampeg combo. He may have worked sound, but that's a tool-ish move if there ever was one.

On this front you may need to be prepared to be a little patient. I heard in a radio report that the IRS is running behind on processing returns, and refunds aren't going to start going out until mid-February. So be prepared to wait a little while.

Yeah, it was just kinda awkward. It was a weird dynamic from the start.

I'm going to email this band later today and tell them my situation and emphasize the fact that regardless of what I end up bringing tomorrow, I'll have a proper rig in my near future. If they're totally against me just using the head through a PA, I'll go get the MarkBass 2x10 for $350 today. I feel like a rental would be kind of a lot to deal with and a lot of money.

Thanks man. I'm starting to think that if I'm not off the hook for bringing a cabinet, I should just go with the MarkBass one and consider it a longer-term investment. It's not such a huge amount of money that I'll be stuck trying to flip a bunch of gear to make up for it. I feel like it's better to get something I'll use for a while for $350, than something kinda mediocre or not as useful to me, for $200...so I'll let you guys know what happens!

The Markbass 2x10 might be light enough for you to drag around and cheap enough that you can apply your TR towards a super-light micro head later on. I think it would probably put out enough sound for your need too.

I'd offer up my Trace Elliot combo, but based on the last thread it's probably not appropriate. I think the days of 75 lb combo amps are behind us.

I recommend selling that 18 lb Peavey head and putting that cash into getting a lighter amp+cab combo.

That Peavey must have been a rather heavy DI box!

The SessionBass head. Better suited for a recording studio, IMO.

Yeah, far better that than a live DI.

While you're at it, you could also include a shoulder surgery Dr.!

That GK looks like a good deal. Once you've got a rig -- any rig -- you are no longer at the mercy of everybody trying to tell you what gear to get. Now, whatever rig you get, don't make any excuses for it. It's your rig, your sound, your preference as to what you want to play through.

Yeah! I think there are a lot of options and I'm looking forward to having an incentive to maybe even change/play around with my sound a bit.
