needing feedback!!

Hi!!

I've just started playing shows with a very personal proyects. Wr're 3 guys playing guitar/bass/noises. We play long instrumental pieces... anyway, I'm in desperate need for feedback.

I'm finishing a small demo and I'll link it asap. But what i mean is ... after the show, I wonder around and ask people if they liked it... but everybody says it was great...

I'm very critical with our music, probably the more than anyone else... and i know that it wasnt great... it was fine... but not tear-running-down-your-face-great... what bothers me is that i believe since they see me up there playing they might not feel free enough to tell me the bold truth...I am desperetly looking for some criticism... how can avoid people being so polite and make them start delivering some real reviews?

Video tape a show and put it on YouTube. If you want critics, you'll get it there.......

Are you looking for popular appeal? Even if people liked your work, what would they say other than that? If they don't like it, then what?

You're an artists. Artists don't care if people like their work. They do what they do and create. That's what's under your control. If you wonder if people like it or don't like it, are you going to change what you're doing once you find out?

Usually if people like your stuff, they will come up and tell you.

Another thought. Record a CD and see how many you sell.

When your folks say you're great.. do they ask how they can stay in touch to see you again.. do they ask for a CD.. anyone begging to join your band?

Issue with original music performance is finding venues that match your target audience... many times the showcase type gigs are for your pals who have clouded perspective.

finding wvues that match us is being a living hell, at least locally... we are either too loud for acoustic vebnues, too chill for rock bars, and too weird for nearly everywhere else... but we keep working at it!!

we are about to self-edit our first cd... so we'll see how that goes.

Consider non traditional.

There are tons of acts that never play bars or coffee shops.

by your description, you sound almost like my band. I'd love to hear your stuff when you get it up.

i know how it feels about being critical about your own music, i always tear up our playing...

i also know what it's like to not be able to find gigs for more out-there musicians. just keep trying

If you need criticism then record the show with an audio recorder and listen back afterwards. Focus on continuous improvement rather than trying to establish whether you've reached a certain state. It's much more gratifying.
