new band using old material

Sign in to disble this ad
so i was in a band about 5 years ago and we recorded 5 songs proffessionally(copyrighted, mastered, etc). the band broke up and we all went our own ways. all the members besides me have reformed under a new name, however they want to use some of the old bands music. normally i wouldnt have a problem but,
1.) the songs have melodic basslines which are key to the song that i wrote and they arent going to change them with the new bassist.
2.) no one even bothered to ask me if it was ok out of courtesy

seeing as i am on the copyright,do i have any power to tell them to not do this? and if so how would i go about this?

This happens all the time.
Get a lawyer if you're really that concerned about it.

Until their band amounts to something and they start making money off of your copyrighted work it probably isnt worth the discourse.
