Lots of classic R&B, good musicians, killer vocalist, no drama... Now it's time to start booking... And every damn bar wants rock bands. Or country. Time to call in some old favors and get this thing rolling. I've been semi-retired for a couple of years, so I have to go see if any of my old pals are still running the same bars.

If you are doing something that regular bars don't want to pay for, look into casinos, resorts, dinner clubs, etc. that have entertainment.

Think more along the lines of classy places that want to hear great music, not cheap music. You don't need to cater to places that only want a live version of a jukebox.

Classic R&B… not that I don’t like what I play, and we play a few, but daaaang I’d love to play more of those tunes...

And (not that I doubt your word) I find it hard to believe that there’s not a market for it.

Could you play some music that crosses over from R&B to rock? Are there other bands in your town that play your style? If so, where do they play?

I'm not sure I agree... I think you'll find that if you offer something different, that might work in your favour. A good band is a good band, period.

We're having some success playing different stuff. We don't do any CCR, Beatles, Bob Seger, or any of the usual stuff and people seem to dig it. More & more gigs are coming our way because we're fresh.

There's a couple of VERY successful R&B bands around here. I think once you get a gig or two under your belt, you'll win up having to turn down gigs.

And like Sundogue said, bars ain't the end of the rainbow. I'd much rather play casinos, conventions, private functions...

That's what we're hoping. Just seems like it's all rock and country right now. No horn section... Going rate right now is $300-$400 a night for any band, regardless of number of musicians. We're a 4 piece and seriously debating bringing in a full time keyboard right now. Guitarist also plays keys and switches, depending on the tune.
