New name? Hopefully it isn't taken... Edit: new name, what do you think?

Well, to those of you who know, and those who want to know, I am in a band called "tet offensive" and while we like the name, we've decided that we may change to something a little less, well, provocative (you thought I was going for the lame joke, didn't you)

Anyhoo, we're a metal band, not too techy, but we play fairly straight-ahead metal, so we want to pick a name that reflects that (if that makes sense) Anyhoo, I have been enamored with the name "The Odessa Steps Sequence." It sounds a little tech (it makes me think of bands like dillinger escape plan, mod flanders conspiracy, Sikth etc) What do you guys think? Is it even avaliable? Did someone already take "my" idea?

Honestly I find that name to be a mouthful...

IMHO a straight up metal band needs a short, sharp straight up name that is as subtle as a brick in your face!

It's a cool reference, but a band name also needs to SOUND good to say. "The Odessa Steps Sequence" doesn't quite cut it. You have a word ending in "s" and the next word begins in "s", making it weird to say. Maybe just "Odessa Steps"?

EDIT: or never mind? http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=12997235

I think "The Odessa Steps Sequence" is too long and hard to say easily. Too many "s"s. People are going to butcher it, and it's going to get misworded on flyers, etc. I mean, our band is called "Total Posers", and even that gets butchered all the time (one of the last shows we did, we were billed as "Totally Posers" on the flyer).

How about just "The Odessa Sequence" or "Odessa Steps"...I think four words is too long for a band name, personally.

Oh, I also think "Tet Offensive" is kind of a cool name, though.

As someone said before, the name becomes good when your songs become good. I agree with others, too many "s", but it sounds quite good.

it doesn't matter there are as many bands out there as there are stars in the sky....until you are touring nationally, making significant money, and things like that i wouldn't worry about it...you could call yourselves megadeath and no one would probably care

hell there are probably 100 bands out there with my bands name...

if you like it use it

hey just noticed you are out of ann arbor :-) we are too.....OK there is definatly not a band within 200 miles of here with that name so go for it...haha

But, we're soooooooo good, that it's completely out of the question that you wouldn't want to know (assuming you didn't know already)

Well, I've talked with my other band-mates, and I guess they're not really digging it (oh well) so I've come up with a few more, tell me what you guys think

Cadence
Inversion in Counterpoint
Three Revert Rule
In Good Faith
Disambiguation
Symmetry

Any other ideas? I dunno, I want something kinda metal, but I don't want outlandish like "bathing in blood" or "Pooping bullets" or anything silly like that.

I'm not sure I like the names.

If I were you, instead of trying to come up with a band name, just go day-to-day and see if anything pops into your head.

Or if you all have an inside joke, derive it from that.

Or you could be French and call it the "Tete Offensive" [ with an ^ over that first "e". It just means "Offensive Head". ]

Google the name. Any band with a Myspace profile will probably hit top spot due to the huge number of back-links, or 2nd place if they have an official website too.

Try:

eyes like knives
new london fire

Both of which we came up with, all three of us liked... then I googled them and was crushed

Then we went with 'lifeless alarm', and amazingly enough nobody we've talked to has picked where we got it from. Google us, and look 4 or 5 hits down
