New samples - have a listen!

Hey guys,

My guitarist and I are in a tedious, extended search for the right singer and drummer. In light of this, we recorded some rough jams in order to give potential bandmates something to hear before meeting with us.

I'd love to hear you guys' thoughts on these tracks, so have a listen at www.myspace.com/samplesdave . Constructive criticism is welcome.

Just please, keep in mind these are very quick and dirty home recordings. Very unfinished skeletons of songs. The drumming is terrible (remember, we still need a drummer) and there are rhythm hiccups abroad. They merely give you a sense of the energy we're trying to exude. I think they have a lot of potential though.

Thanks for any input, and if anyone knows a singer or drummer in the Toronto/GTA area that may dig our stuff (and isn't a douche), let me know!

Cool!

Good start, definitely! Cool stuff, nice diversity between the first and the third/fourth tracks! If I knew anyone in Canada, I'd send them your way

How'd you guys do the recordings anyhow?

Thanks gus, I appreciate it.

Our recording setup is as follows: We mic up whatever instrument we are recording at the time (I hate not recording live, all at once, but we don't have the means to do that right now..), and have that running into a really nice PA system that we stumbled upon through sheer luck. That runs to a second hand computer that runs adobe audition 24/7, which records all our tracks. The sound quality obviously isn't the best but it works for now.

Luckily a friend of mine has an electronic drum kit that we can connect directly to the PA. Makes recording MUCH easier (but again, sound quality isn't great). If only we had a real drummer, lol.

I use a Godin Freeway 4 bass that's about 6 years old. Great bass, but if I'm digging into the strings a lot, I get a lot of popping and farting through my amp. I need some heavy duty pickups I think.

Cool set up. When I used to record more often, I would go through my effects unit and directly into the mic out on the back of the PC and record into Sonar. Run all the tracks, program a drum machine, rough mix. Working on a new set up now b/c I'm thinking I want to start recording after the holidays. We shall see! Keep us posted on your progress - would love to hear the songs with acoustic drums and vocals!

Good luck!

Keep baiting the hook, you're bound to catch something eventually. In the mean time continue writing and creating. Someday it will all come together.

I think you two have a good start for putting together a band!

Good luck finding some band mates and keep working on material to keep the juices flowing until some are found!
