Nice Audition

I did an audition last night, so I wanted to share this story, this one is positive. I am not looking to quit my primary band. I wan to play more so I like many,I am looking to be a 2 band kind of guy.

I auditioned with the full band 2 guitarist and drummer all significantly younger than me. They are 26, 33 & 33.I am 57.

They asked me not to bring my amp just a bass if I wanted and that they have plenty of gear. They did, I saw at least 3-4 basses in their rehearsal space. I complied and only brought one of my many basses, a long Horn Dan Electro.

They had a great rehearsal space with nice recording capabilities. They said, “We are not interested in how well you play bass, we already know you can play we have seen you perform. We want to determine if you’re a fit for our band and what we want to do.”

I auditioned 2 songs and we worked through an additional song, so we pretty much nailed 3 songs. Then we just talked. They have invited me back for next week and I have another 2 songs to learn.

They commented that the last guy they auditioned showed up with his rig when they asked him not to bring it and he was unprepared.

They were very honest about my age and they said it didn’t matter to them.

These guys have my attention.

General audition comments anyone?

You and I are the same age, and after I read your post I said, "Wow!"

Depending on the genre, it could work, but I see so many life differences in the age gap that I can't see it lasting long. On the other hand, it'd be cool if you could make it go.

Good luck!

Bluewine: Sounds promising - I hope it works out the way you want it to.

Sound like cool guys. As to the band lasting because of the age difference ... it depends on whether it's about making music, or "being a band".

If the former, age doesn't matter ... I play with people of all ages, races, political and religious persuasions. We don't have to be best buddies, just make good music together. If the latter, as is true with so many very young players, they're more into the thought of being a band, as if those CD cover pics of the band hanging out on the seedy side of town are what it's really all about.

Noticing the ages of the other members I think they're about the music. But ... they are at times in their lives when things change quickly. Marriage, career, young family, all take a back seat to the band (if he's got his head on straight). It can work, though.
