My favorite quote is "If you aren't very good at guitar, pick up a bass. If you can't find a band, pick up the bass. If you can't sing,m pick up the bass. There are many bands out there that don't even care if you can't actually play more than 1 string as long as it's in time."
He's probably swimming in responses by now
Feel free to message the guy, he blocked me for basically telling him to have some respect for the instrument.

Acordian got you down buy a bass. To smart to drum its bass time. Don't like to play 1000 notes a minute and noddle between every song play bass. |

Maybe he should suggest to his proposed "would be" bassists that they remove two strings like the guy(can't remember his name) from the band Morphine.
Seriously, I hear from a number of musicians around here that it is difficult to find a good bassist, as there are a lot of guys who have focused only on "flash" and have missed the "substance" of the instrument.

He said - "trust me, I've played every instrument - and bass was the easiest. any guitar player that knows how to play just a little bit can play the bass."
I wished him well on being satisfied with a guitar player bassist that muddies up his sound

Guess he's never had to play anything funky or sophisticated on bass. And with that limited a view of what a bass does in a song, he's probably not the best drummer. I mean, how much chops can he have as a drummer if he doesn't actually listen to the bass? |

It irritates the CRAP out of me when drummers don't listen to what's going DOWN in the basslines. What a MAROON!!!!

I don't know how other TBers feel, but IMO everyone else in the band can make minor errors and get away with it, but bass errors make things just sound wrong. We have a higher standard to uphold. Matt, perhaps we are just feeling more pressure?
Sometimes I think my band is lying when they say they haven't noticed my mistakes. But I'm (usually) in the pocket, I sing, and I show up on time, and that counts for a lot with these guys.
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Be on your best behavior for the next few weeks, so Santa Bass will bring you that effects pedal you are GASing for.

| | | | back to him ;) If you aren't very good at guitar, pick up the drums. If you can't find a band, pick up the drums. If you can't sing, pick up the drums. There are many bands out there that don't even care if you can't actually play more than 1 drum simultaneously as long as it's in time. If you are a drummer and reading this, We are looking for a drummer. We need someone with good taste in music and their own gear.

Hmmm.. well gee mister drummer - maybe if you quit being the stereotypical musician who looks down on bass and doesn't really consider it a "real" instrument, there would be more of us!
I had to say something...
And that fact that there are so few bassists is just icing on the cake because this drummer has just about destroyed his chance of finding one.

-----------
His speaking voice is fairly normal. http://youtube.com/watch?v=er35JmIqY2E
I have no idea how he sings that high. Actually I rather like when he sings in the lower register, like on "The Pass"
But I digress from the thread...
