Personally, while I think it would be nice to practice on weeknights, it's impractical for a lot of people.

Let's face it...most bands are made up of younger people who don't have "ideal" jobs yet...for instance, our guitarist/singer makes good money, but he works a second shift factory job. He also has a young daughter at home, so practicing on weeknights or later on school nights is impossible. So we usually practice on Saturdays, or Sunday afternoons.

Right now it's not a big deal, since we're still trying to replace our last lead singer to round out the band again, so we're not gigging anyway. Usually when our band has a gig on a weekend, we don't rehearse that weekend, so things balance out. (We make darn sure we're ready for the gig at least a week in advance...we try to avoid having an "emergency" practice the day before the show.)

its totally doable,

I go to college full time (pre-med, working in labs doing research and getting the grades etc...) and am in an all original rock band that is actually making quite a name for itslef in chicago. My life is simply either study or band, but I can't complain. If you want it badly enough, you will make the time. Also, I find that the busier I am, the more productive and succesful I am.

Rock on.

It's about priorities. I'm married, 2 kids, hefty day job. The other guys work and one is getting married this summer. We do our best to adhere to a regular schedule and keep communications open when it comes to booking shows. Just talk to all involved and try to carve out some time and set time aside for shows when you have them.
