Ok...give me your opinions of this situation that has arisen.
I wrote the company I won my new bass from, thanking them. They would like to put a pic of me with the bass on their web page, and give me a web banner to put on my personal MySpace page.
So I asked our drummer to please send me a particular pic of me playing that bass. Its a very good pic, very rock-n-roll looking.
He says he does not want me to send that company any pic of me that does not show the band's on-stage banner behind me.
I don't like this. The band didn't win the bass. I did. Why should I have to get one made with the band's banner behind me? I told him that I would ask them to please put the band's name with mine, in the caption. He says no, because it will be too small, and no one will notice it. He wants people who see my pic on that company's web page to see the band name in big letters that they can't miss.
Would you go along with something like this, and if so, why? Also, if not, why not?

The company that awarded the bass to you will most likely not be interested in publishing a picture with a band banner and/or logo in it, so the dispute is resolved in that regard.
The bass you won is a promotional item and an advertising expense. The instrument manufacturer is only concerned about paying advertising expenses for their products and services, not anybody else's, bands included.

I can get someone else to take a pic of me, and I can send it to the company for posting. But if he sees it, I risk being kicked out. I'd hate to have to start all over. We're getting wonderful gigs, and are beginning to make decent money. But I don't think he's being at all fair.

Sounds like this guy is a little too bossy. |

The instrument manufacturer is only concerned with and paying advertising fees for their products and services, not anybody else's, bands included. | Thanks for the insight! I'll use that. "They won't want a pic with the band's banner. They're not advertising us. They're advertising the bass!"

Take your own pic, and send it in. If he actually boots you for that, then, regardless of good gig or not, he shows himself as a guy you don't want to be working with.
How old is this drummer? This guys sound like he's in 7th grade. Unbelievable.
Life is too short for nonsense like that.

I'll have one taken when I'm playing with my other band. We had to quit playing when the singer moved to Cali, but he's coming back for a visit in May. We will play a gig, have a jam party with our friends, and record at a studio downtown.
When this drummer complains, I'll tell him that bit about how the company isn't advertising our band, and won't want a band banner in the pic.
That should take care of it, and protect my position in the band.
Thanks!

Try asking the other band members what they think of it. Maybe you can get the majority in favor of you using it. |

Life is too short for nonsense like that. | He's in his late 30's. Sheesh...he really is being juvenile, no?
He wants to feature the band and the singer. (He tells her all the time how she's a star, yada yada...) He does not want to feature me. Well...he doesn't, on our web page. My presence there is very small.
My neighbor pointed out that he may think that, should I get an endorsement, he can control it by making it about the band, not me as a player. HA!

Use my above remarks and tell him to step. You're under no legal or moral obligation to pimp the band if you don't want to, even if you could in this situation.
What's next? The band's banner has to be in your passport photo and in the picture you take with Victor Wooten outside a club after meeting him? Oy vey..........................

| | | Load up the picture in the slideshow, and press that little PrtScrn button on your keyboard by the F keys. Open up MS paint and press Ctrl V. Then you can crop it down and save your picture and send it in yourself |

I've been in two like that, and the "band politics" combined with the "couple politics" made it intolerable. I honestly would tell them that until you (Cherie) sign an exclusive contract with them, you are a free agent, able to make your own business decisions regarding your image. If they get pissy about their ownership of that particular photo, have somebody else take a different photo. |

When the slide show is going through the images, when it comes to that one, click the PrtScn button, that saves a snapshot of the screen. Open a picture viewer/editor, and you can paste the whole desktop there. Edit out everything else, and save the pic as an image file. Viola!
P.S. your drummer is a boob.

and why should you be punished by your own band?
try to explain to them once again that you will put the band name in the caption, jeeze i found clatter through waterstone and i just bought one of their albums, tell them that any exposure is good exposure, and that like a poster said above, they are advertising the bass, not you guys
hope that helped

Just try to watermark the band's myspace link at the bottom of the pic... problem solved. Well it should be, but I know how drummers are...
