Ran across this on another forum I frequent. If you order this guy's album, he's offering to rap a 16-bar verse on one of your tracks for free.

http://board.rapmusic.com/audio-emce...-6-99-a-2.html

Here's how he explains it:

Quote:
it's not desperation at all, if you actually use your heads and think about it. If i record a verse for a dude, and he cops the album, he's now holdin my album, and my music is now a part of his music he's pushing, which opens potentially other ears that i may never have reached if not for that maneuver.

The album is doing great in terms of pre-orders, this is simply a new idea i had that I wanted to test the waters, and it's workign quite well.
That's not an idea we can just steal as bassists (maybe if you play prog and a large chunk of your audience is other musicians), and it's something that will only work for people obscure enough that they won't be flooded with takers, but it is very interesting. I'm starting to see more and more labels doing CD/shirt or CD/shirt/poster bundles, this is a fascinating variation on that theme, especially because it also gives people incentive to market the track you end up doing for them, and thus spread your name.

Do you think it will work? Have you seen other intersting things people have offered as throw-ins for a CD?

I just started discovering NIN's massive marketing scheme in 2007...

Includes 36 websites, secret codes, phone#s all over the world and flash drives left in concert bathroom stalls. Every Nine Inch Nails fan came together to crack this. Insane!

Muse did a similar thing with their 'United States of Eurasia' track; they hid 4 flash drives around the globe (yeah, the whole WORLD!), each with 1/4 of the track on. when they were all found, the track was released. This was all before 'The Resistance' was released.
