O/T: How many here are actually in a band ?

I know a lot of you guys are bedroom warriors, who play for your own enjoyment.

Personally... I can't find a band id enjoy playing for, I really enjoy just playing for myself, id like to be in a band, someday though when I find one that fits me.

I guess this isn't to see how many are in a band, its to see how many of us aren't

I was in a band since before I actually had a bass. They rushed me in, I had a teacher at the time and they were all pretty experienced, helped me out too.

I've been that band ever since then, but I've also been in three other bands. It's fun, you should definitely try it.

I'm in a couple working bands. I get horribly bored playing alone....I'd rather play guitar and sing if alone.

Does O/T stand for Off-Topic? Cuz you know, Talkbass actually has a forum *called* Off-Topic... in either case, I think this would be better served in Band Mgmt & Performance...

Anyway, I'm in two (original, secular) bands, plus I play regularly with a third (church) band, and I'm auditioning for another working (cover) band this weekend. Yay for work!

I'm in a non-working (gigs are sporadic and only when we're all home from school) cover band, and 2 originals.

I was in the same band for about 4 years. Things fell apart because a few members couldn't keep up eventually so I've been a bedroom warrior for a year now. Its been fun, I've really just been learning alot more theory and techiques that I never used before.

That said there's nothing quite like playing out with a band. Even when the shows you play suck, its still a lot of fun. If everything works out for me I should be back in a band and playing shows sometime next month.

Most of my first 20 years of playing was without a band. Played off-and-on with high school friends starting Senior year. 2 years in a band in college. Maybe 2 and a half. Jammed with a guy for a couple of months in 2000.

That was it until early '06. I'm never going back to the old way. Don't wanna make it big, be a rock star, or make money - just want to have fun creating with other people.

Let's see, I'm in one band that plays a lot and is putting a CD together, one that plays a couple of gigs a year, one that plays very sporadically, and one that plays every Saturday night in my studio strictly for our own amusement. I cannot get anything at all done working alone.

I'm a hired gun right now. For some reason my main band is stuck in Limbo.

I am in 3, and I couldn't imagine being NOT in a band. In my life I've been in 9 different ones, including those I am in now. Some were projects I actually liked and inspired me, some were favors for a friend, and some were just for the sake of being in a band.

4 current projects leaves me very little time to play with myself.

I'm in a working cover band right now. I've always been in bands since I started. I've been in blues, rock, folk, original bands. I couldn't stay home and play for my own enjoyment, I'ld rather play mandolin.

I've not nearly the chops to play solo and session gigs so playing with a band is really the best way for me to motivate improvement.

It's hard to be a bass player and *not* be in a band.
You kind of have to kick 'em off your doorstep.
When they're hanging from your nipples you know it's bad...

You know, you have a point...

Being a bassist is likely the nearest experience I will ever have to being a beautiful woman (i.e. having guitarists hanging all over me).
