I know, it's a pdf but it's the band info page that has the promo shot of the band. My buddy, the bass player. I'm older than most of the people in that band, yet still 15 years younger than the bass player. Trust me, you'll spot him on sight.

But, I have to say something right here. I started playing in big horn bands with guys 40+ years my senior when I was 17 years old while gigging was monthly per band I would see a lot of the same guys two and three times a month in several of these bands around town. I've usually been the youngest and sometimes by a decade or more so I don't know what you feel but I've never had a problem. Being a female bassist (back in the 80's and early 90's) I could stand next to someone with blue skin and a bald head and it not look as odd.

You can kind of spot the odd one out. Does it matter a bit? Not at all. If you've ever seen them live you'll not even notice it. The guy sat with the hat on it actually bald and ancient looking in RL and actually kind of creepy if you are a girl. Do I notice the fiddle players age when he is wearing a slayer T and doing air kicks? No!

For me at 24 I've played in bands with both horn players and fiddle players in their 40's. Currently in two bands where the singer/guitarists are both 10 years and 15 years older than me. It is all about attitude and an individual thing. I don't really notice it much. Most of them out drink and out smoke me then continue to be a giant corrupting source of fun and inspiration, more than I'm able after a couple of sets and round after round of drinking anyway.

Man do I relate!

I am 50 and have been in "originals" bands since the late 70's.
The last act I was in had me at 50, a frontman at 37, a
drummer at 40 and a lead guitar at 30 - who of course, we
called "the kid"

Since that broke up I have not found another thing that
likes "old farts" in my area

I used to do prog rock when it was the first time around
(Jon camp was may hero back in the day) - I applied
to several acts doing original prog in my area with pics
and samples - they liked me plenty - then when I mentioned
my age they stopped responding to emails....

Waaaay back in 1977, when I was 20, we had a drummer
who was 24 - I recall being weirded out by a guy who
was SO MUCH older playing with us!

Fortunately my mental retardation faded with age

Having the same musical goals and level of inclination
is all that matters (as others here have said so well).

Lately I play with a couple of acoustic guys just out
of proximity, but sure do miss "a band"....

Thanks for all the replies.

I decided to get together with these guys to jam and see what the vibe is.

Great news mate! I hope it all goes well.

Relax, and enjoy that age for a while again, hehe.

That is good to hear! I am 44 and was honored when a young metal band asked me to fill-in for a few gigs while their bassist broken arm healed. All these guys are in their early 20s. I had a great time, they called me Pops. I think once the music starts and you can hold your own, age doesn't make a difference.

average life expectancy for a male in the US: 82

so unless you're sure that you're going to live to 100, and you're in your 40s, you're at LEAST half way through your life. In the "middle".

Welcome to "middle age"
