once again - name my band thread

once again another 'name my band thread'.
we've been going thru this the past 4-6 weeks trying to come up with a name. this is an 80s cover band playing songs from the 80's from madonna, prince, journey, whitesnake, motley crue, gary numan, etc. we've got a male and a female lead singer, keyboard, drums, guitar, and bass. we're playing in houston, texas. as far as i know there are only three other 80s bands in the area - mr. hand's revenge, the lost boys, and molly and the ringwalds.

here are what we've come up with in the order of preference.
1. The Rubix Band
2. The Dream Machine
3. The Brunch Club
4. The Dream Factory Band
5. Pandora's Box
6. Fatal Instinct
7. 80 Proof
8. Pop Culture
9. Class of '89
10. The Last Starfighter

Maybe you guys can help us out. I'll show 'em your suggestions and comments about our name ideas.

It's funny, because I read the band names before I read the beginning of you post, and I thought, "Damn, those all sound like 80's band names!"

Caller 9.

The local radio sation always takes 'Caller 9' for the
stupid contests. I finally realized this is so they can clear
the phone lines of all pre-existing calls.

Caller 9 means 'You MIGHT be a winner'.

Then Spandex Ballet comes to mind.
You could do a great version of 'Hit me with your Best Snot!'

1. The Rubix Band - I don't know.Pretty Uninspired. Maybe the Rubix Funkalicious Groove Machine

2. The Dream Machine - ever heard of a band called Dream Theater?

3. The Brunch Club - The Breakfast Club or the Brunch Club? Cheesy

4. The Dream Factory Band - see answer to #2

5. Pandora's Box - Pantera/Pandora. I dunno. Not for me

6. Fatal Instinct - Liked the title for the movie but not as a band name.

7. 80 Proof - I actually don't mind this name. Especially if you guys are a bunch of whiskey drinking rawk 'n' rollers who use groupies for the way they were intended to be used in rawk 'n' roll

8. Pop Culture - Culture Club? vomit

9. Class of '89 - just no. too dated

10. The Last Starfighter - name of a cheesy 80's or early 90's movie. Are you guys cheesy?

Sorry. You asked.

Alas, it's the name of a fairly popular country band. Oh, and if you intend to use a number between 80 and 89 in the name DO NOT use 88 unless you're trying to attract a neo-Nazi audience.

I do like the Brunch Club. Cheesy, yes, but this is 80s music...

Molly and the Ringwalds you say? That got me thinking a bit. Call yourselves:

The Juddernauts.
Larry Lester's Buns.
Eat My Shorts.

Sorry, just rambling.

"The Last Starfighter" isn't bad for an 80s cover band. On the other hand, these days it's good to have a name that someone can Google and find you near the top of the search results. Maybe make it plural: "The Last Starfighters". Not sure, but I do like the idea of using an 80s movie title or movie character, then modifying it slightly. Kind of like that band called "Save Ferris".

the 88 is because the h is the 8th leter in the alphabet. ergo HH means heil hitler in a "criptic" way, this was mostly developed in nowdays democratic germany since its banned to actually say "hail hitler".

the more you know.

(p.s. do not come after me for having "general" culture. im not nazi and i did not mean to offend anyone... just wanted to make this clear, nowdays you never know when will somebody feel offended.)

Hey geddyfleaharris, almost ALL 80's music is cheesy. So a cheesy name wouldn't be out of line.

Molly and the Ringwalds got me thinking about the movie "Sixteen Candles". If you're not worried about getting, say, wedding or corporate gigs, then I'd suggest The Donger Needs Food.

Pink Unicorn Horsey.

It works best if you're a metal band. Then you can bill it as "featuring former members of Gangrenous Footwound, Necrotic Filth Ingestor and Gramma's Nummy Cookie Recipe."

Of course you can also go all old school and call it "The Miami Relatives."

I seems like it's mostly 80's metal/top 40 stuff, while John Huges movie references would tend to associate more with New Wave in particular...
