Opinions on a band name...

Sign in to disble this ad
So me and some friends are in a high school band. We're generally a hard rock/grunge band, and just started jamming this summer. Now we have been looking for a name for some time, and our guitarist came up with "Breaking Silence".

Now at first I liked the name, but the more I hear it and think about it the sillier I think it sounds.

What do you think of the name?

this might be a stupid topic but this has been bugging me :/

The name sounds like something Hot Topic would support.

don't worry too much about it! A band name is constantly changing, Almost as much as you're opinion of it will change. Until you play a show with the name, be careful not to judge too hard.

At this early stage in a band's life, Every member should be open to suggestions. It's not like the name is a life long commitment.

you gotta start somewhere though, so don't get too caught up on it!

Not that any of our opinions should really count cos i have definately been in bands that people wondered about the name.... but, it makes me think immediately of breaking benjamin.. which is not a good thing in my book.. and even if you do like them, it may make you get compared to them in some peoples minds which will only be to your detriment.

but its a hell of alot better than 'Reacharound'!

The first thing I do when deciding on a name for any project is I go on Google and see who already thought of it. Google "breaking silence band" and you'll see there's bands called Breaking Silence, Break the Silence, Breaking the Silence, etc. etc.

I imagine there are TONS of bands our there with the name Breaking Silence. It's got a nice ring to it, but simply not creative enough. For some reason whenever I try to think of names that are "cool" I end up coming with something like that, just another cliche name. Keep on thinking!

I like Breaking Wind better, but Breaking Silence is OK. Maybe a little on the long side, but it should fit on a marquee.

names are almost irrelevant unless they are really stupid or offensive.

a good name won't make a bad band better. A bad name won't hold back a good band.

But you definitely want something unique. Catchy.
