His name sunded like it had been created for a band. Seth Kreager. I was saying maybe we could take that name to do a blues only version of the band - called The Seth Kreager Band - although not including the 11 year old student - just steal his name.
What then surprised us was the next table said they thought we couldn't do that because they thought they already had an album from The Seth Kreager Band and thought they might have even been to a gig by them. No such band existed - I'd just made it up - shows you how some names just sound so natural for a band name!

There was another band with half our name and something else, so I'm happy with our name. It reflects the music we play (rootsy Delta blues) and it is unique to us.
Searched for another name of another band I'm in and it, too, is unique.
A Celtic band I used to be in had but one other rival to the name and the other band spelt the name incorrectly.
The bluegrass band I was in was also unique in name.
Some suggestions for naming a band – mix some or all of the following:
- Location
- member names
- steer clear of clichés (ex. if you're in a blues band leave "blues" out of the name)
- throw in a superlative
- anagrams (as suggested by someone else in this thread)
- use a dictionary & thesaurus
- solicit suggestions from friends & family and take what you need/like
- use an online band-name generator as inspiration, but not for the actual name (the best names come from thought, not from online band-name generators, IMHO)
- consider the type of music you're playing and intended audience and home in on an aspect of that genre
- mix up some song titles from a short list of songs that epitomize what you do
Not many bands can transcend a schitty name (there's always exceptions); IMO a name is very important, just wish I could convince my fiddler friend of that as he just doesn't give a rat's patootie.

Some good suggestions in your post Feral. Mine was more tongue in cheek.
Just tried googling the band names of the gigs I've got and I'm happy as well... my bands are the ones that come up for both (and a 3rd I just auditioned for). Even better, I dig all their names!

You can have it if you want. My bandmates rejected it totally (and they never agree on anything).

| | | I like band names with good SEO. In other words, you can easily get into the top 10 Google results. People are lazy. Make things easy for them. I'm also against mis-spelled and hard to spell words for that reason. If you have a website you want people to be able to find it, and people are lazy.
PS: For actual names, start reading history books. There are lots of decent band names in weird places that are unused and that have good SEO. And plenty of them don't sound like you stole them from a non-fiction book at all. Name your band after a nuke test. Nobody will even guess. |

Dust & Chrome
Junior and the Geriatrics
Digital Dinoband
Dirt Funk
Krusty Mudhens
Voodoo Jive
Like the guys said, just start throwing stuff together and see what comes up. |

| | | | On the subject of nuclear band names, I'm wondering what sorta band 'Frigate Bird' would be. Folk rock?
I'm guessing 'Castle Bravo' would be electronic. And 'Ivy Mike' a little punk. 'Tellar-Ulam' for the metal kids. Maybe a Christian worship group could snag 'Trinity Test'. |
