So after years of barely scraping together enough money to record at semi-pro studios, I just read an interview with Peter Gabriel on the future of the music industry.. He's got plenty of great thoughts on the subject but the biggest thing I saw is this.. There was a band who wanted to record at his studio but who really couldn't afford it.. They decided to sell tickets at $60/piece to 120 of their fans for a concert at the studio along with producing a video webcast.. Essentially their fans paid for a full week in the studio of which a few hours was dedicated to a live performance/recording.. Genius..

A friend's son's band raises money for recording by renting the local VFW hall, inviting some other local bands of the same genre, and charging $10 a head. They made $1500 the last time, and are doing it again this Saturday. Pretty good for high schoolers.
