picking a band genre… tips plz

Ok, I searched and couldn’t really find the thing I was looking for, so here it comes in a new topic.
Our “band” has been practicing for about 2 or 3 months. Current list of songs we play are,
Time is running out – Muse
Go with the flow – QotSA
Island in the sun & Hashpipe – Weezer
Highway to hell – ACDC
Our first thought was, “we’re going to play all kinds of genres to see what we like”.
Now for some reason we have plans to take on our first gig at 8-8-8.
It now being 29-5-8 we are getting really close to that date. So we decided to pick a genre… And here it “stops”. It’s going to be really difficult finding a genre. Our “lead vocal/guitarist” dude has his limitations due to the fact he’s only singing for 3 or 4 months and is still developing. Our drummer is a guitarist who has been drumming for 3 or 4 months *since we started the band*. I’m dealing with backing vocals *since a month now* and our second guitarist has only been playing for a small year now. So there are a lot of troubles we encounter. But that’s just fun
Problem is… musical preferences.
we all like rock, BUT!
I like death metal kind of stuff
drummer likes 80ies rock
lead singer likes QotSA & Muse
backing guitar like HIM & ramones & misfits & metallica
So its all in the same district, only different lanes.
My question is, do you guys have any tips on picking a genre or making a set list or just like, getting the noses in the same direction?
Were going to start to learn 1 new song in 1 week to get a decent set list for 8-8-8. so, any help will be very usefull…

thnx in advance!
Greetings,
Rijn

Get together and jam and make the magic happen, as they say

Well, if you can't agree on what kind of music you'll be playing, maybe you shouldn't be playing (at least not originals) together.

Otherwise, you could just try to write something (maybe through jams as suggested), and maybe you'll see something taking form eventually and you won't even have to decide what kind of genre it is and just play the music.

Since you're all new players with diverse musical tastes I suggest that you pick tunes that you can actually learn/play in a short time and that the singer can sing decent enough.

What type of music is expected at the gig? How long is the gig? You can stretch your playing time by going through each song 2-3 times and keep the party movin'.

You have a gig in two months and you don't know what type of music you're playing?

This is a billboard of the cart being well in front of the horse.
