PLaces to practise?

Sign in to disble this ad
Wel i started a band last month
and weve found that 30 minutes is not enough time to practise

thats all we get for lunch at school

so im trying to help us out by finding a place which we can hire for up to 2-3 hours
with us having to pay or not
(theres four of us, easy to split)

so where in Perth Western Australia
can we practise
in or around joondalup

Hmm.. you cant use any drum pads to keep the drums quiet and keep the amps down a bit?

I guess im lucky.. we usually get compliments desipte the noise haha

We usually do about 2 hours a week and that does pretty good

Im not overly sure about hiring out any places, perhaps there's a community centre you can hire out or something?

Anyways im heading off to get some sleep.. Good luck with finding a place!

Here in the states the schools are usually open for another hour or two after the kids leave (after school sports, teachers grading papers, etc.).

Could you work with a teacher and keep the school location, but add an hour after school 2-3 days a week?

yeah
it would work

even on school holidays

my friends recorded a whole album at the school
and the teacher helped em

i dunno
i just want to be able to play without being waited upon

thats what it feels like when we stay
the teacchers wait there as if we wasting their time
with our own place we can just chillax and get to some practise
the place im thinking of has no houses around
and i know the guy that closes up
we can just chill there
plus my parents are actually down there
cause of soccer
so it all works
but i guess its just asking them
and i cant till sun or mon

plus its cost as well
like only one of us actually has a job
i found a place thats 55 bucks for a couple of hours
but its in east perth
to farr for us to trek our gear

I say garage or basement.
We used to get noise complains from the crabby ass old man next door all the time, and cops and all sorts of things, then we invested time and money into a bunch of foam and fiberglass insulation and now you can't even tell we are playing outside the house.

Cost us about 300$ and a good couple saturdays looking for old carpet and couch cushions people where thowing out, but it was well worth it.
Heck of alot better than the 50$ an hour, hell you might as well make every practice in a semi professional recording studio.

Do you know any local business owners? We practice in the basement of a local business. We are in the process of moving but our last spot was 20 bucks each a month. The new spot is about 40 each a month. We can go from 6pm until we the wee hours of the morning if we want. Look into that option.

My old band found a mini-storage area that had power outlets. We rented a small space after making sure that the renters were cool with it. Luckily we found a renter that was cool with it. It cost us $40 / month. The five of us split the cost. We could get as loud as we wanted whenever we wanted. One caviat was that we couldn't bring extra people around or beer or anything. As long as it was just the band, the renter was ok with it.

Try some local churches. If you're a member of a church, ask your pastor, priest, whatever if you can practice when there's nothing going on.

$50 an hour just to practice is ridiculous IMO! For $55 we book a studio in East Perth from 6:30pm to 11:00pm. So that's $11 a week each. The rooms are 5x5 or 6x6, air conditioned, with PA support, a bar fridge and noone hanging over your shoulder.

Around here you can get a monthly room for $150.
Hourly rooms are $10/hour.

Find a studio or jam space in your nearest city.
