if not,
EADG->CGCF: hit the flat button 4 times and tune E string and D string until it hits green light, then hold down the fifth fret on A and make it sound like an open C (the D one) after that hold the fifth fret on C(the D one) and tune G string to F. | I have 3 buttons on my tuner. With the first button can i change the instrument. The other two changes the hz between 410 and 480. |

It won't be 100% accurate unless your intonation is completely perfect, but it'll work until you can invest in a chromatic tuner (or download one for your phone or whatever).

That's not to say it's a worse genre, I'm just saying it might be more advantageous for OP to go with pop punk. A lot of people can be turned off by the "death" aspect of "death metal." I know not all metal is death metal, but it can be grouped into that category.

I say do what YOU want, don't sit around and waste your time on Earth doing what you really don't want to. Perhaps find some other people who share your musical tastes, that's a start. |

I personally wouldn't worry about being labelled at all (I know when someone asks you got to tell them something). Play what you like and maybe something unique will come out of it. I agree with the others too,Thrash/Hardcore is a good compromise. |

The guitarist and I in my last band started out thinking we were going to play punk rock and then ended up finding we were better at metal. |

Also: there are some people who know what they are talking about in this thread. There are so many people who who think they know metal and punk who clearly don't have a clue. If you do not regularly go to metal or punk shows, then you probably don't know anything about it.

I would definitely never want to find myself playing to crowds that I felt were less authentic than myself. That's just me, though.

You're a musician for God's sake. Don't say relatively offensive stuff like that. Everyone knows that metalcore takes exponentially less skill to play. I didn't bust my ass practicing so I could play open note breakdowns. |

Ok, that's not allowed.
To be fair to OP, he did mention he wanted to play pop punk right from the start. Pop punk is puke to metal players. So play it with other pop punk people and stay friends with your friends in the metal band.

But, on-topic: I see you don't exactly disagree that metalheads really will resist playing metalcore.

How about you create your own genre and don't define what you're going to play until you start writing it. It will change dramatically as time goes on. In my last originals band we had 5 guys with 5 different backgrounds and as a band we came up with some cool stuff because none of us would have written the song that we did if we had written them by ourselves.

The Goo Goo Dolls, for example, as guitarist/vocalist Johnny Rzeznik came from a punk background, and bassist Robby Takac came from a metal background.
Kind of like the Lion laying with the Lamb, but it can happen...
Oh yeah, the Lion is the metal guy, by the way! (Sorry, couldn't resist! \m/ ) |
