Ok, so last week my band went into this "studio" to begin recording with a guy that supposedly has a degree in audio production and works at a recording studio. He told me he went to this one place and recieved a bachelor's degree, but he's going around telling everybody else that he went to the same school as me and got an associates degree. Now this guy supposedly records metal bands but he wants me there for the mixing so that way "Someone will be there that knows what they're doing." Is it just me or is this guy just full of crap? If he did go to the place I went to I know the exact professor he had (Bill Simmons of Midnight Star) and I know we had 4 mixing projects to do. He's recording us for free, so I don't really have room to complain and his band's stuff sounds really great. Think we should stick with him and just see where it goes?

hey, if you heard some of his mixes and they sound good, i say go for it. its probably better off that he wants you there for the mixing anyway, that way you can keep his "producer's complex" in check and make sure the mix turns out the way you want it.

If he was a real pro he wouldnt be doing it for free. Id say stick it out and see what you think. If im tracking a band and say they wanna do 5 songs, well set the drums up most of the time and do all 5 songs on drums before we move on. Avoid this, just record one song. If that song turns out great then stick with him. If its aweful then dont waste your time or his.
