This is wierd and i'm wondering if i'm the only one who has this issue.
first off, i just picked up on the whole fingerstyle thing, but never actually used it when jamming (i used a pick).I HATE standing still when playing, and that was an issue i always dealt with while playing with a pick. the other day i fugured what the heck, and i started finger playing during a jam session. But after useing my fingers, I suddenly was able to do so much more physically speaking, than i could with my pick. seriously, i could jump around, run, do some crasy full-body sways, and stuff i couldn't do with a pick. Any one else ever notice something like this or am I just messed up? |

I think it has something to do with the fact (at least for me) that when I'm playing with my fingers I can lock my hand into place on by resting my thumb on the pickup...I've always had more trouble playing accurately with just a pick.

I like to do fun songs or songs that were recorded with a pick..well...with a pick just for fun. Little bit of everything man.

COMPLETELY opposite for me. I can run, jump, spin... WHATEVER with a pick. I can't move as freely on the songs I play with my fingers.
Muy interesante!!!

Sometimes it takes too much concentration if I play something from Rush and am trying to jump around everywhere.

Most fingerstyle players anchor their thumbs to a pup or (in my case) ashtray. If you do the same while picking (ie. Nikki Sixx anchoring his pinky on that little bar thing he has on his Thunderbird) you'll find you can move around more.

Playing with my fingers feels natural. Playing with a pick is about as easy for me as playing with my feet while standing on them.

Back on topic:
I don't feel like I move around any more, but I kind of think if I played with a pick, and had the bass sitting real high, I might be able to move the bass itself around a little more. And by move, I mean throw. But since I don't play with a pick, and I don't want to crank my bass up to my neck anyway, I'll stick with fingerstyle.
