Should this be my last straw?

Okay, so I got my band an interview on a pretty big FM radio station a few weeks back. The date rolled around, and everybody got to the station this morning. Without me.

The lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and drummer promised me they'd get me a ride. They completely forgot me, having me wake up at 5 and wait around like a complete ass, going and royally messing up the interview I got for them.

Shouldn't I be mad? How should I confront them?

Get them another interview, then tell them all about it- the next day.

if arrangements were made, and confirmed and they at least to called to let you know that someone had to bail or a car didn't start or whatever i could see it.....but it sounds to me like you are dealing with kids here.....in my job the rule of thumb is that if there is a problem with something calls are made to give people the maximum amount of time to make other arrangements...anything else is not acceptable

Give me a ride or buy me a car huh? Dude , get your ducks in line, and you wont have to rely on others to line up your ducks.

Oh, and never listen to drummers.... they bang things with sticks for a living.

UNLIKELY, they probably left you behind on purpose.
So what, you could not take a cab, or a bus, or get a ride? You could have called the radio station and been in on the interview VIA telephone. Or did you just sit at home listening to them on the radio?

Sure, get a car, take a cab, etc...

But the band agreed to a plan, then ditched the bassist and proceeded with the interview as if he didn't exist. Nobody said: "Dudes, where's the bassist?"

Possibly the most vital personal skill for a musician is reliability. In seventh grade band, the teacher told us that the only way to get a failing grade was by missing the concert. If these guys can blow you off for an interview, they will blow off a gig if they decide at the last minute that they have something better to do.

Let the band learn that good bassists are hard to find.

NICE!!! Thanks fdeck.

I can see the points made about transportation (spinning off a DUI myself). But my take is OP more than did his share of teamwork in getting the interview. Unless this was a rare case of crossed wires (It happens. "Me?!? Shoot, I thought we'd agreed YOU were picking him up." It happens more before coffee kicks in.) this is a large minus for this band's ability to get things done.

Thats it, right there.

let them look around for a while to find a decent bassist, then see how appreciative they are of you.

If time between the moment you realized they forgot you and the time of the interview was large enough, you could've just called a taxi and gotten there yourself.

True, your band is a band of dicks for forgetting the guy who set up the interview in the first place (and promptly screwing it up); however, you need to have a backup plan for this kind of thing.

But in order to do that, they'll have to work with someone else. Furthermore, I don't know about you guys, but I'd NEVER go back to a band that kicked me out.

I don't know that anyone's suggesting OP then go back to that band. Nor that they would be kicking him out.

The implied flow I get is that "Band" X goes through several bassists, having them all leave after being treated worse than a mic stand, then decides they should treat bandmembers better, then lands AND KEEPS a good bassist. Some learn this quickly, & some never do.

Maybe they were sick of having to haul you around or get you rides and wanted to make a point. Or for whatever reason...they were still trying to send you a message. If you're interested in staying with these mates, it might behoove you to find out what that message is.

This implies that there have been some other occasions in which you've been unhappy... Ultimately it's how you feel and what else has been done. While I agree with the others about finding your own transportation, this would seem like a last straw issue if the others have been this bad...

Believe it or not everybody..... there ARENT always taxi's to be had in areas. If I had to call a taxi, it would take 30 mins for them just TO GET TO my place.

It sounds like your under appreciated. Call them all up and give them a piece of your mind, and If they dont like it, walk.

There's more here than meets the eye. How has your relationship been with them lately?
