So I'm in my first band now...

The music (pretty much just generic rock) isn't really to my tastes, but it's a good way to get experience, I suppose. Of course, my Ibanez starter kit isn't really going to cut it, so I'll need to buy new gear, but musically it looks like I'm up to it (just started playing 6 months ago).

The only thing I don't really like is that the bass parts tend to be really simple, just root notes of basic chord progressions. What are some things I could do to make the music more varied and "groovy?"

Post a list of some of your songs - offering groovification ideas might be more forthcoming...

I only played with them for an hour or two today. They play mostly original songs and some covers that I don't recognize (Shinedown, Goo-goo Dolls, don't listen to them so I don't know).

It's not my favorite sort of music, but it isn't too bad, and I really do need experience with a band.
