Song Ideas for an Audition

I'm going to be trying out for a band made up of previous members of a band I was a fan of. I'm 15 and have been playing for about 4 months but I play very well for how long I've been playing. Their previous band was metal but they haven't stated what the new band will be. They are about my age. Now that thats out of the way does anyone have any suggestions of songs that would be good to try out with? I'm looking for something that sounds impressive, maybe has a bass solo? (but not needed) and isn't required to be a virtuoso to play. In other words something that is hard but not to the point where its impossible for me to learn it. Preferably something heavy as the band probably will be. I'm gonna be going through my music collection looking for a song but I could always use the extra ideas.

Well john the fisherman by primus is a crazy song with raking and debatable pluckin/popin/slappin. Its not all that heavy but a truly impressive song to play. I wud also say sweet child o mine, but u said the band was likely to be heavy. Then again sweet child is rather easy after practicing for maybe a week. Good luck and check out that primus tab if u get the chance.

I was at a bar on the weekend and the band played Ramble on my Zeppelin. I was blown away by how hard the bass line seemed as I had never bothered to try to play it.

I printed off the music from Ultimate Guitar the next day and learned most of the song (all except the little changes) in about 30 minutes. Very cool sounding bass line and to see it played well is very impressive.

Also, Interstate Love Song by STP looks harder to play than it is. Lots of easy to remember chord changes and octaves.

What about Crazy Train? The galloping bass during the verse and the higher notes during the solo sound really cool.

Longview or Holiday by Green Day also are very bass driven songs and not terribly difficult to learn.

Lastly, (and it has a bass solo) could be Cumbersome by Seven Mary Three. The entire song is done almost entirely on on the 2nd and 4th frets. Kinda mellow though.

Why don't you ask the band a few songs that they'd want to play and learn them? It's one thing to learn a bass solo (or a song with a prominent bass break), but you're more likely to get in the band if you can play along with a bunch of songs they all know.

The bass line to Crazy Train is pretty much all quarter notes - when does it gallop?
