After reviewing a little history I was wondering how many of you"move it" on stage?

Does anyone "do it" like the sixties? Youtube has some great vids of the early days of beat R&R... I don't think I could do an entire gig moving around like some of these guys.
There are a few live clips of the Dave Clark Five that are very impressive, Mike Smith is sweating bullets...

"Brian Poole and the Tremeloes" though this is a studio dub the band was always in motion live... great bass(54-56 pbass) and bass line by the way

no wonder these guys were so skinny...

It sure helps that they aren't plugged in and are mimicking.

I like to think I bring a lot of energy to a live show. Personally, I think the live experience should offer something the album does not. My one band does a full production with video, lighting, costumes, and between-song performances by a spokesman/salesman/mock-televangelist.

You gotta give people something unique if you want them to come back. Staring at your feet and strumming chords is lame and boring.

thanks
few reasons for that.
1.i didn't have a cord long enough to go from my pedal board to the head
2.i would jump off the cab at a certain point during one song, and as much as i value the protection of the rackcase, i don't want to test it

"are you on drugs?

hmm... "move it" you say..
well... my band has garnered a bit of attention partially FROM our stage show.
(i.e. tonight i left stage with bloodied shins after falling off of something i was standing on in order to jump... but lacking contacts i knocked into something on the way up that cause me to fall... bass over my head and just got right back up there)

anyways...
i thought i'd throw a couple of pictures up for amusement sake.

cornerstone festival 2007 (late june/july... right at the beginning of our summer tour... generator stage)

big show with August Burns Red

big show with August Burns Red

small local show billed as "pajama party" hence... the pajamas.

that's the ticket... yep, a bunch of skinny guys...

the videos on Youtube come and go, there was one of the Dave Clark Five doing the Tremeloes "Do you Love me...", it was live and they were all over the place, just amazing... on the "we do move much" side check out Roy Orbison in Holland, if it is still there... very cool

one thing i always hated was watching a band that stood on stage like wood statues i love moving round i even bought a wireless kit so i could leap in with the crowd and jump on balconys it gets the crowd envolved, makes your band members laugh and helps keep you in shape...........

plus the ladies love it too

I like this one. The Small Faces doing Itchycoo Park. Featuring Steve Marriott on guitar and Ronnie Lane on bass. Even though they are only miming the performance, its too cool. Check out Ronnie Lane's leg kicks to the beat.

What kind of big hollowbody bass is he playing?

I guess "reckless" would be a good way to describe my band live sometimes. As a result of this thrashing around, a few things have been broken here and there and sometimes things like this happen...

I'm the singer in my band. My buddy was singing, (screaming if you want to be picky about it) with me and we tripped sending me into one of our guitar amps and over part of the PA. I finished the song and set (it was our last song) on the ground with a not to happy spine...

Here's an awesome picture of our bass player...

And finally, this is what happened when our guitar player went for a throw, and his strap failed. The resulting anger (and some booze) broke the body...

I think there should be some movement when putting on a show (depending on the music), but, there's a limit to what I personally enjoy watching. Jumping around to the extreme, knocking things over and abusing equipment is just not my thing.

For the most part, with my current band, I don't play bass parts that are conducive to moving around. I suppose I *could* write some parts that would enable me to do such, but I can't help but write bass lines that are suited for the ear rather than for the player to be able to move around whilst playing....

+1!

though i move (a lot), i still write all my parts standing still so as to make them pleasing to the listener. my goal is the write the best parts that i can, then memorize them so wholly that i can do just about anything while playing them, and not skip a beat.

I'm in a strange position in that I'm pretty much the only one in the band who can move around (3-piece), but because I write my parts to be a bit more complex its a lot harder to move around. It would also look out of place if I went bonkers on stage since nobody else is doing it.

Trust me on this: enthusiasm is contagious.

Moving around is more or less second nature. You don't have to be playing the bass behind your head, doing windmills, or somersaults. It can be anything that conveys enthusiasm. I could just listen to a CD of a band if I purely just want to "hear" the music. I go to a show for something else. The music is only half of the equation.
