Stuff band mates bring or forget to bring

Sign in to disble this ad
I've read posts about all the gig stuff bassists bring to gigs (i.e. wrenches, strings, super glue, batteries, cables, flashlights, blow torches, etc). Is it only bassists who come to gigs prepared?

I recently asked my acoustic guitarist what he brings to gigs. He said a strap, pick, capo and a tuner (which he often forgets). It never occurred to him to bring anything else. I gave him a set of extra acoustic strings and an extra 9V battery to put in his guitar case (which I had in my my stuff).

What stuff does your band mates bring or always forget to bring to gigs?
Have you ever had to "rescue" them?

Baby wipes are great for instant clean hands w/o having to find a bathroom. Everyone will thank you for breath mints. Having a boatload of cords will eventually save somebody. Bandaids, aspirin, correction fluid, cough drops...

my band always forgets their tuners! The other day one of guitarists forgot his strap, and there have been times where i would have to use DI only, even when i bring my big half stack, all because Johnny Dumb*** forgot the power cord to his Gibson tube amp.

For some reason, I'm always the one supplying picks, and I NEVER use them myself.

They both could be the same thing.

Yes, I've had to rescue them on occasion. I've learned from reading this fine forum to come prepared, as much as possible/practical.

Our singer/rhythm guitarist seems to always forget something - a guitar strap, guitar stand, capo, picks and the like. One time I made him an "emergency capo" out of a Bic pen and a piece of elastic strap cut from my old case that I carry tools and doodads in. They called me McGuyver (sp?) for a while after that. And if anyone needs a screwdriver or whatnot, I'm the guy (they just don't think to bring any stuff like that, and I may not have either except for reading here).

My doodad case has all kinds of things in it, from a selection of tools, to extra strings, guitar straps, cords, power strip, extension cord, even a guitar slide, which did come in handy once when the guitar player forgot his. I carry solder and a soldering iron too but I've never had to use it on a gig.

Heck, I went out and bought a heavy duty 25 ft extension cord and power strip just for gigs because one time no one, including myself, showed up with any and we really needed them badly. The stage area only had two plug ins, both on one side of the stage.

My guitarist brings big bags of tasty buds.

Crap guitarist but after about 15 minutes I don't care anymore.

I am happy to bring the guitar gear if he brings the pot.

everyone wins!

You have to tell me where you practice so I can meet your guitarist and have a "jam" with you guys and check the band out

To the OP the drummer in my band has used one of my spare leads to go through the PA with his v-drums each practice. He has one but on his channel the PA has 2.

Last practice his kick died, and he needed to borrow another of my "spare" cables. So no pedalboard for me that night, and I bought another "spare" for next time LOL.

That same night, the rythm guitarist also forgot his tuner (no floor tuner grumble grumble) and picks! Never brings a capo just tunes up or down...and it turns out he doesn't bring spare anything either, not even a second guitar (we told him to from now on he owns at least 3 electrics!).

So I figure when we even do start gigging I will need a spare one of everything for everyone, and a truck to cart it in

The fact that I always carry a Leatherman, a few spare guitar picks (even though I don't use them), and a drum key (on my keychain) has saved more than 1 show.

A Guitar. It's often too much to ask for some guys to even remember they have a session.

I seem to be the only one who ever brings power strips. Happened again this weekend. I walk in, and the guitarist and vocalist are arguing over who gets the only outlet in that area of the room.

Since I carry stuff for my own emergencies (batteries, Leatherman, soldering stuff, cables, etc.), I can usually help other cats. One thing I will NEVER understand is the need to bring an extra strap. Can someone please tell me why a strap would ever be somewhere other than on the guitar?

While I agree that its good to bring things to save others if nothing else, when we decide to bail out guitarists out on some of the dumbest friggin things like picks and cables then they'll just come to rely on that. Lets make them learn eventually that they can't get away with being retarded.

Also, why the heck do people never have tuners? It should be the first thing you get after your first guitar and amp.

Yes but you can make them "owe" you if you save them! Great leverage for band votes.
